Week 4 Rankings for USA #7 (Western Conference)
Last week’s rankings: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=146683
I could use some help doing these, so if any of the owners/GM's or even people on the team could PM me what you thought went right and wrong in your games (like what I've done here), it would save me a bunch of time. Thanks
Disclaimer: I am the owner of the New Brunswick n00bs and this is only my opinion based upon how the teams looked when I saw them
1. Waco Davidians
2. Denver Pirates
3. Bel Air Beardogs
4. Oakland Wizards
5. Hartford Hellhounds
6. New Brunswick n00bs
7. Las Vegas Stunners
8. Dallas Red Raiders
9. Portland Hitmen
10. Spicewood Longhorns
11. Scottsdale Sun Demons
12. Miami Cyclones
13. RGB Berzerk
14. Chicago Clams
15. Grand Haven Mists
16. Ambridge Brigade
1. Waco Davidians - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1220
What went right: Secondary – With 3 forced fumbles, 1 INT, and 13 passes deflected, the Waco secondary gave Oakland’s pass offense more than it could handle. Add that to the fact that they held Oakland to a ridiculous 26/75 passing and it’s clear that passing probably wasn’t the way to go.
What went wrong: Pass Offense – Alright, it seems that passing teams have been dealt a hit with the lowering of pass efficiency and the chemistry being added in today. But even with those issues when you have 11 dropped passes and are thus held to a 29% pass completion rate, something’s not working right.
Recent Game: W 21-3 at Oakland
Record: 4-0
Previous Rank: 1
Next Game: vs Miami Cyclones
2. Denver Pirates - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1212
Contributor: rdr3131
What went right: Defense – Forced 2 turnovers and kept Grand Haven to only 102 hard-earned yards at a total of ~1 yd/offensive play. They weathered a bizarrely pass-heavy offense (95 freaking passes!?) and shut Grand Haven down in every facet of the game.
What went wrong: Pass Offense – Not a good sign when you complete less than 33% of your passes. Also not a good sign when it’s largely in due part to 14 Dropped Passes!! by your receiving corp. This could spell trouble if they face a team who can actually score points on them.
Recent Game: W 20-0 vs Grand Haven
Record: 3-1
Previous Rank: 3
Next Game: at New Brunswick n00bs
3. Bel Air Beardogs - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1224
What went right:Run Offense – When your backs score 4 TDs, break 16 tackles and nearly have 300 yards for the game, you know you’re in good hands. RGB couldn’t stop them.
What went wrong: Kicker – This problem seems to plague the conference. Going 1 for 4 is unacceptable. Luckily this game wasn’t even close, so they didn’t need him to hit the FGs, but this could be a problem down the road.
Recent Game: W 31-7 vs RGB
Record: 4-0
Previous Rank: 5
Next Game: at Spicewood Longhorns
4. Oakland Wizards - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1215
What went right: Pass Defense? – Honestly, not much went right for Oakland this game, but statistically they held Waco to a paltry 29% pass completion rate. It’s debatable about how much of it was due to their defense, but facts are facts and we can give them credit for that.
What went wrong: Kicking – Putting the pass happiness aside (because I’m not sure if they really wanted it that way), the one factor that hurt them was the kicking. In a game that was this close, relatively, you absolutely need your kicker to be clutch. And going one out of four (granted 3 were 40+ yards) is certainly not clutch. While mysterious circumstances definitely surrounded this game, it’s clear that Oakland doesn’t want it’s kicker to be on the field with the game on the line.
Recent Game: L 3-21 vs Waco
Record: 3-1
Previous Rank: 2
Next Game: at Chicago Clams
5. Hartford Hellhounds - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1216
What went right: Pass Offense – In a day where getting above 40% of passes completed was a chore, the Hellhounds managed to complete over 50% of passes despite 4 dropped passes. In their demolition, their offense was balanced enough to keep Chicago off-guard and a successful pass offense went a long way in doing that.
What went wrong: Kicker – Once again, you can’t miss so many field goals. Going 0/2 (with one within 30 yds) is not a good thing and could harm them in a close game.
Recent Game: W 49-0 vs Chicago
Record: 3-1
Previous Rank: 7
Next Game: at Grand Haven Mist
6. New Brunswick n00bs - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1210
What went right: Run Offense – Once again, the n00bs kept on pounding the ball to the tune of 283.5 yards on 55 carries for a solid 5.2 yds/carry average. Accounting for all their TDs, the run offense has become this team’s bread and butter.
What went wrong:Kicking – Granted the 2 he missed were more than 40 yds, but missing 2 field goals on a team like the n00bs where they rely on defense and the run is brutal because every point is important.
Recent Game: W 20-3 at Scottsdale
Record: 3-1
Previous Rank: 6
Next Game: vs Denver Pirates
7. Las Vegas Stunners - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1219
What went right: Run Offense – In this nail-biter of a game, the Stunners relied on their rub offense to gain yards. With a respectable 3.8 yds/carry, the Stunners shouldn’t have thrown the ball and just should have taken their chances with their running game.
What went wrong: Kicker – When a game goes into overtime and the other kicker has already missed a FG to win it, you’re supposed to kick the field goal to win the game, not give the other guy another chance at glory.
Recent Game: L7-10 (OT) vs Dallas
Record: 3-1
Previous Rank: 4
Next Game: at Portland Hitmen
8. Dallas Red Raiders - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1217
What went right: Turnovers – They had 3 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles. But most importantly one INT came when the Stunners were in the Red Zone. If there was no interception, this game could have gone the other way.
What went wrong: Kicker – He got lucky that the other kicker missed in OT, but going 1 for 5 is nothing to hang your hat on. Because they won on the one kick that he did make, the fans probably forgive him, but it could have gotten ugly.
Recent Game: W 10-7 (OT) at Las Vegas
Record: 2-2
Previous Rank: 8
Next Game: vs Ambridge Brigade
9. Portland Hitmen - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1211
What went right: Defense – They held Miami to under 150 yds for the game and limited them to 3 points. Add that to only 1 missed tackle and you could say that this was a pretty dominant defensive performance.
What went wrong: D-line – In a weird paradox, the D-line was pancaked a whopping 12 times. Thankfully for Portland, this didn’t lead to many long runs, or else this game could have been closer.
Recent Game: W 27-3 at Miami
Record: 1-3
Previous Rank: 14
Next Game: vs Las Vegas Stunners
10. Spicewood Longhorns - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1214
Contributor: im4ut999
What went right: Running game and entire defensive effort. Mylo Cambell toted the rock 15 times for 98 yds. The defense held Ambridge to 61.5 TOTAL yards in 61 plays, allowing only 6/40 passes completed and 22.5 yards rushing. Offensive line stuffed themselves with 47 pancakes, 15 by M.Webster in 99 plays, with Ace Canon filling himself with 7 in 32 snaps.
What went wrong: RJ continues to struggle with the receiving core, going 17/46 for 136 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT (in the endzone). The receivers had 8 drops, although there were several bright spots, with Karl Roberts getting his first TD reception.
Recent Game: W 40-0 at Ambridge
Record: 2-2
Previous Rank: 11
Next Game: vs Bel Air Beardogs
11. Scottsdale Sun Demons - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1225
What went right: Kick Return – Not much went right for them. The kick returning team helped to get them decent field position, but they weren’t able to capitalize on it.
What went wrong: Turnovers – With 1 INT and 4 forced fumbles in which they lost 2, the Sun Demons couldn’t afford those mistakes against the n00bs. If they can hold on to the ball better, they’ll have better results
Recent Game: L3-20 vs New Brunswick
Record: 1-3
Previous Rank: 9
Next Game: at RGB Berzerk
12. Miami Cyclones - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1955
What went right: O-line – They had 12 pancakes that opened holes up. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the personnel to take advantage of the running lanes.
What went wrong: Skill Players – Like stated above, the Cyclones didn’t have a go-to guy that could carry them on his shoulders. Due to this, the offense sputtered pretty badly.
Recent Game: L3-27 vs Portland
Record: 1-3
Previous Rank: 13
Next Game: at Waco Davidians
13. RGB Berzerk - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1223
What went right: Johnny Awooga – Their lvl 12 HB was really their only bright spot. With a decent 3.8 yd/carry avg and 6 broken tackles, RGB should have given him more than 15 carries in the game. They would have been able to make it closer.
What went wrong: Pass Offense – It’s bad enough to go 7/33 in passing, but if you end up throwing 2 INTs as well, then your pass offense has been officially turned into a liability.
Recent Game: L7-31 at Bel Air
Record: 1-3
Previous Rank: 10
Next Game: vs Scottsdale Sun Demons
14. Chicago Clams - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1218
What went right: Punter? – At least he out-punted the other team’s punter with an average of around 9 yards more…
What went wrong: Offense – Um…45 total yards in a game is pretty bad. I won’t comment anymore other than to say, 3/52 !??
Recent Game: L0-49 at Hartford
Record: 1-3
Previous Rank: 12
Next Game: vs Oakland Wizards
15. Grand Haven Mist - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1222
What went right: Pass Defense – The only real bright spot for the Mists, they had 10 deflected passes and they clearly bothered the QB into a <33% pass completion performance.
What went wrong: Offense – They could not get anything going. When you spend most of the game on your side of the field and have to punt the ball 25 times, something’s not going right. They just could not compete with Denver and it was painfully obvious on the offensive side of the ball.
Recent Game: L 0-20 at Denver
Record: 0-4
Previous Rank: 15
Next Game: vs Hartford Hellhounds
16. Ambridge Brigade - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1221
What went right: Pass Defense? – With 11 passes deflected, 1 INT and Spicewood being held to less than 40% pass completions, the Brigade’s pass defense seemed to be pretty effective.
What went wrong: Offense – With 1 yd/offensive play it’s nearly impossible to score. This team could be in trouble for the rest of the season if they can’t score.
Recent Game: L0-40 vs Spicewood
Record: 0-4
Previous Rank: 16
Next Game: at Dallas Red Raiders
Offensive Player of the Week:
(This week was close)
HB Greg Martin New Brunswick – 33 rushes, 199.5 yds (6 yds/carry), 2 TDs, 12 Broken Tackles, 1 TFL, 1 reception (for 5.5 yds).
Defensive Player of the Week:
DE Gotch Yarbrough Waco– 6 tackles, 3 sacks (for 17 yds), 3 Hurries, 2 TFLs, 0 missed tackles
Special Teams Player of the Week:
K Sucksat Soccer Portland – 3/3 in PATs, 2/2 in FGs (34 yds, 33.5 yds) – In a week with some poor kicking performances, Soccer was consistent, which is what we expect out of kickers.
Game of the Week:
#6 New Brunswick vs #2 Denver
This will be a good clash of 3-1 teams. Because I’m the owner and I don’t want to jinx the team in any way, I won’t be predicting anything If you want to put your predictions down, go ahead.
Current “Game of the Week” Record: 1-3
