1. Memphis Maulers (8-0) – Memphis holds onto the top spot after a 97-0 whalloping of the B.K. Thunderbirds. Ahmad Galloway made a strong push for the rushing title with a 39 carry, 324 yard, 9 touchdown performance on the day. Backup HB Jay Lumkin ran for 211 yards on 23 carries while adding another 3 touchdowns. Of special note, QB Gee LeDouche connected on all 11 of his passes for 127 yards. 100% completion rate is nothing to scoff at. CB Solomon Wilcots took his lone kick return of the day back 99 yards for a touchdown. The defense didn’t want to be left out in the scoring frenzy, and CB Hunter Rose took one of his 3 interceptions on the day back 100 yards for the score. Rose also added a stellar 10 passes defensed on the day. Memphis has been seeing a lot of one sided scores, but they are entering a tough portion of their schedule with 7 of the next 8 teams they face having a .500 or better winning average. Will they finish the season at number 1? Time will tell.

2. Tradewest Battletoads (8-0) – The Battletoads beat the Shasta McNasties like they stole something, finishing up the game 133-10. QBs Jimmy Harbaugh and Brett Gunslinger combined for 17 completions for a very impressive 85% completion rate, 388 yards and 9 touchdowns. Not to be outdone, the tandem HBs BrooX ENTENSE and Johnny Drama Victory!, names that haven’t lit up the charts to this point, ran for 353 yards and 7 touchdowns, an amazing 14.7 YPC average. Tradewest had three receiver top the century mark, led by WR Julius Mavey’s 6 receptions for 153 yards and 5 touchdowns. WR Dice Kay returned 15 punts for 334 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Battletoad defense didn’t want to get shown up by Memphis, and so finished up the scoring trifecta with an interception returned 22 yards for a touchdown by CB LaDaJerious Willingham. The Battletoads have shown all season that they have a prolific offense, and they have shown no signs of slowing down.

3. Yellowknife Rented Mules (8-0) – Yellowknife showed why they are the top offense in Canada A#2 with a resounding 191-0 victory over the Kitchener Krushers. In fact, Yellowknife seemed to be making a point with a whopping 1169 yards of total offense on the day. QB Ruffian Symonds threw for a huge 500 yards and 9 touchdowns, while HBs Marshawnn Lynch and Mike Triplett, the respective top 4 and top 3 rushers in the league, both topped the 300 yard rushing mark, combining for 670 yards and 16 touchdowns. Reading these numbers is astonishing fans… Yellowknife had two punt returners eclipse the 300 yard mark as well, with CB Smoke Brooks leading the way with 10 returns for 347 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Yellowknife defense, while they didn’t score, did get to the quarterback 10 times on the day, led by DE Felix Nolan’s 3 sacks. While it would be nice to say that with such a potent offense, the Mules don’t even need to worry about defense, but the Rented Mules come in with the stingiest defense as well, allowing only 23 points on the season with 4 shutouts in an 8 game span.

4. Nova Scotia Snakes (8-0) – It was another great day at the Snake Pit, as the home team’s fans cheered their Snakes to a 65-10 victory over the Toronto Storm. Current rushing leader HB Justin Michaels ran another 30 times for 253 yards and 4 touchdowns. Michaels already has a staggering 269 carries on the season in only 8 games, an average of 33.6 carries a game. The Snake defense harried the opposing QB all day, notching 5 sacks and 2 interceptions. Nova Scotia is currently running with the 3rd ranked offense and defense. The Snakes a have a tough schedule the next two weeks, traveling to the Clover Field to battle it out with the Lincoln Lucky, and then hosting the Rented Mules in a titanic struggle for supremacy in the East.

5. Westwood Bruins (7-1) – Westwood handily downed the Saskatchewan Limas 48-14 yesterday. It was a relatively quiet day for the Bruins, who field a top 10 offense, who tallied a reasonable 437 yards on the day. QB Randall Cunningham Jr. lead all passers with 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. In a solid day, WR Sir Mustard Ketchup was a fiend, catching 10 balls for 155 yards and 1 touchdown. CB Dave Mits was the leading yard earner for Westwood, returning 12 punts for 246 yards. Of course, it is the Westwood defense led by sack leader DE Granite Wall that really shines. Wall added only 2 sacks to his total, bringing his season sacks to 39. He has been a force all season and is the heart of the Bruin defense. Westwood is facing what turned out to be a very tough 4 game stretch for a talented Laval Lumberjacks team, with the Sabertooths, Maulers, Battletoads, and Indians coming up. It is a true test for the Bruins and I am sure many are wondering, just how good are they?

6. Laval Lumberjacks (6-2) – The Lumberjacks cap off a rough first half of the season with a solid 110-17 victory over the Moose Jaw Mac Attack. QB Mister Mann added to his already comfortable passing yardage lead with a 455 yard, 6 touchdown day. HBs Christopher Pickens and Roadkill Rage combined for 300 yards and another 8 touchdowns to cap off the offensive attack. Returner CB DeAngelo Sanders had a monster game, averaging over 40 yards per punt return for over 200 yards and 2 touchdowns. DE oner nirrad was relentless on the day, recording 11 tackles, all of which resulted in negative yards for the Mac Attack, including 7 sacks and 4 tackles for loss. Laval had an uphill battle over the first half of the season, but came out of a brutal four game stretch at 2-2. They will battle for a top 3 spot in the playoffs over the second half of the season.

7. Gaffney Indians (7-1) – Gaffney pulled out yet another close fought battle, taking down the Toronto Punishers 38-20 on the strength of HB Tony Raper’s 3 all purpose touchdowns, one each rushing, receiving, and returning. It was a quiet game for the rest of the Indian offense. The defense was tackling well today, and forcing three turnovers really helped out, but the Indians only recorded one sack on the day. They are going to have to figure out how to start sacking the quarterback if they want to finish out the season strong. While holding the Punishers to a relatively low 20 points, Gaffney has been keeping it’s games close lately, after a blazing start of the season. In the past 4 games, Gaffney has allowed close to 150 points, where it allowed only 28 points in the first four games. Currently in third, Gaffney hopes to hold off the hard charging Lumberjacks and Bruins.

8. QB Sakuragi Hanamichi wasn’t asked to do much, only throwing for 90 yards, as HBs Sakamoto Ichiro and Len'non Creer ran wild over the Fowl Sackville team, combining for 465 yards and 6 touchdowns. Niagara took both it’s 2 interceptions to the house and finished with 6 sacks on the day. The Assassins were stifling on defense, allowing only 28 yards total to the overmatched Sackville team. Niagara’s stock has been rising since their two losses early on, and with a light schedule coming up, they should climb high in the rankings.

9. Hamilton Lightning (7-1) – Hamilton gutted the Lancaster Hustlas 104-13 on another well balanced day offensively where they recorded 382 yards rushing and 385 yards passing. QB Joe Kane had amazing protection all day, only being hurried once on the way to 385 yards and 6 touchdowns with WR Glenn Cyrus grabbing 6 of his balls for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. HB Lukas Omelanczuk had a stellar day, rushing for 211 yards and 4 touchdowns on only 15 rushes for a 14.2 YPC average. CB Marcus Baby Boy continued his return dominance, returning 3 kickoffs for 181 yards and 1 touchdown, a 60+ yard average! Rarely does a special team player get the kind of attention Boy has been getting all season but this guy is really something special. On defense, Hamilton did just enough to crush their opponents, not allowing them to move the ball all day. Hamilton has a good chance to move up for the rest of the season, though the top teams in the East loom ahead through the last half of the season.
