Some really ridiculous upsets today, ones I don't think I could've called even in my wildest dreams. Discuss.

Cambridge Chieftains vs. Vatican City Fighting Popes 7-23 Alpha Conference
Natural Born Killers vs. Ingolstadt Hat Tossers 24-41 Alpha Conference
Passion Fruits vs. København Hühnerfalken 49-28 Alpha Conference
Heidelberg Hitmen vs. Brugge Touch 26-0 Alpha Conference
Torpedo Cowthorpe vs. iue5 acolytes 26-23 Alpha Conference
Tilburg Dream vs. Red River Ruminants 10-12 Alpha Conference
Stockholm Black Death vs. Warfield Hellbringers 34-38 Alpha Conference
East Cairo Argonauts vs. Nikopolis Stoic Hedonists 63-10 Alpha Conference

Yeah, SEVERAL shockers in the league today! I would never have picked these games by the margins of victory.

1. Popes come out of nowhere to snatch victory from a team that, while outleveled, has consistently dominated their opponents--all in convincing fashion.
2. Merenoise comes through big as his teams' early-season struggles seem to have been put behind them to overcome a VERY strong NBK team.
3. The Passion Fruits dominate, I mean, REALLY dominate the Hühnerfalken??? Seriously didn't see that coming. Suddenly makes me glad we played the Fruits so closely earlier...
4. Hitmen shut out the Brugge, a normally offensive-savvy team with a cavalier attitude towards punting on 4th down.
5. The Acolytes really make a game out of their meeting with Torpedo Cowthorpe, which raises the question. Acolytes most-underrated team in the conference, or Cowthorpe the most overrated team in the conference? I guess we'll find out as the season progresses.
6. The Ruminants' outstanding defensive effort shows the inconsistency of the Tilburg offense in a close battle. Or is it more like watching the Bears vs. Packers? Who cares who wins, neither team will make the playoffs and actually WIN a game.
7. Black Death lose to the Hellbringers. Okay, now I suddenly don't feel so bad about losing to the Hellbringers, either! I will say this, their offense gameplans better for their games than any team I've scouted so far. No I wouldn't have picked them to win, but they're better than their record and shouldn't be underestimated.
8. My beloved team, the Argonauts, scored more points than any team in the conference. Come on people, WE ARE AN OFFENSIVELY-STUNTED TEAM. Ask anyone who has played us, they'll confirm this. We're the type of team that on paper look like we should score 20+ per game and are lucky to score 14. It's my fault, I'm the OC.

Long story short, I think this week just shows the parity of this league. I don't think of half of the above "upsets" in that light at all as much as I view it as an adequate reflection of the competitiveness of WEBBB#1.

I wouldn't call a few upsets but the Black Death losing to the Hellbringers, I don't think anyone could've or would've ever predicted that one

Here's my take:

1. Popes are the toughest team we have played hands down. We knew København would score often on us, the Popes caught us totally by surprise and their game planning is very under-rated.

2. This was very gratifying on every level.

3. Passion Fruits came out with the perfect game plan to slow down the Hühnerfalken offense and Jerome "Big Bus" McNasty will be in the running for league MVP.

4. 3 of the Hitmen's 4 losses came against some of the (currently) top 8 teams in the league. They were one of the few alpha teams that got matched against a top tier team in their inter-conference game and they have played everyone but København close.

5. The acolytes are definitely a tough squad. Cowthorpe is an equally tough squad. Not surprised that their game was one of the best of the week.

6. The Tilburg Dream is GMed by two people. The Ruminants by 5. The amount of work a team takes to run is staggering. I know because I have delegated a hell of a lot of the work on my team and I still end up spending several hours a day just doing work for the team. I just don't see how two people can consistently pull off gameplans and tactics for each game.

7. This one was definitely not a result I expected. Great game by the Hellbringers especially when they were facing the #2 passing offense in the league.

8. The Stoic Hedonists is a team with what is what I think is one of the two most clever names in the league (the other being Manchester Divided). They are unfortunately also starting a with a huge deficiency of levels no where more pronounced than ROLB The Big Bad Daddy (Lv. 9). Good game for the Argonauts to fix some of the moral problem that might be developing.

Great games tonight. I am going to watch some film and do the recaps. Good night all.

Not at all. I wasn't being sarcastic or condescending. Although I like to poke fun at the name and the general behavior of the Catholic clergy in my recaps I have a ton of respect for the GMs on the Fighting Popes.

WTF are you talking about. The Acolytes have several level 20+ players on their team. They were the favourites for this one. The fact the Cowthorpes won is the upset here.

As OC for Cowthorpe, let me second that...this was a game that, on paper anyway, we were the underdog. The Acolytes are by no means a weak team.

This is simply not true. Everyone should beat us. Don't worry about it.

Again, i agree with my previous players and GM, by no means are we overrated either? We came into this league knowing it would be yough and i think our record and position says it all, i dont think you have any right to be calling us out as overrated when we have put time and effort into building a team of as gooder worth as anyone in this conference, sorry mate but i think youre wrong there...

I also checked our roster to theres, everyone of there players bar 1 or 2 in every position is higher than ours...Credit where it is dew next time please...
