Game Recap
It was a complete accident, but frustrating nonetheless. The waitress returned my credit card to the couple at the table behind me, and they exited Bees & Beers, a sports bar right outside ‘The Hive,’ before I noticed the mistake. Long story short, I ended up getting my credit card back, but it took awhile and I was late to cover the game.
I showed up at the end of the first quarter, and shuffled my way into the press box. As I looked over at my buddy to ask how we were doing in our home opener and catch up on the game, I noticed the scoreboard over his left shoulder: 55-0. I just laughed, and started writing.
So by this time, Speedee McGee (13 carries, 208 yard, 8 TDs) already had 4 rushing touchdowns and the Killer Bee D had already come up with a score of their own as well. Before I knew it, it was halftime and the Bees were up by a modest 100 points.
I ran down to the field before the team left, and caught Coach Chi-bob of the Mustangs. He told me that he was satisfied with the performance of his running back and kicker, but complained that the rest of his team was acting “robotic” and “as if they didn’t have feelings.” After the trainers made the last few adjustments on Montana Cornell’s battery pack, Chi-bob and his team headed to the locker room.
In short, this one was a stat-filled blowout. Highlighting the Bath defense was DE Snatch Johnson (15 tackles, 9 sacks, 13 hurries, 5 TFLs, and 1 FFum) and CB Jon Holloway (2 INT’s, 2 defensive TDs). They gave up just 46.5 yards total, including .5 yards per carry on the ground, and scored a total of 4 touchdowns.
Bath’s offense whipped up 844 yards of total offense, including 8-TD performances from Brock Leetman, last week’s Player of the Game, and Speedee McGee. Receiver Chocolate Undies also caught his 4th and 5th TDs of the season, as Sabin (4) and McCoy (1) combined for 5 TDs and 0 picks.
This one was over from the start, and was a nice run though practice for the Killer Bees in preparation for next week’s showdown against the 2-0 Iceland Berserkers. Coach Gazeruth admitted that this game could mess with the intensity of his team, but countered that he was “confident in his guys’ focus on the ‘big picture.’”
Player of the Game
Karl Sabin went both ways like Lindsay Lohan, throwing for 4 TDs (12-15, 197 yards) and rushing for 4 more (11 carries, 129.5 yards).
Quote of the Game
“Speedee was talking some mad shit from the start, so I had to show him up in quarter number fo’.”
-Brock Leetman, after being asked about his 5 fourth quarter touchdowns to keep pace with teammate Speedee McGee’s 8 for the game (McGee had 4 in the first quarter).
Stat of the Game
16.3 – Pass completion % for the Mustangs
What’s next for Bath?
The undefeated Iceland Berserkers come to town for a Week 3 showdown of Zeta Conference powers. I wouldn’t be surprised if these two teams met again in the playoffs.
