Only problem is that it is not a good assessment of who is really superior because we are a pretty darned good team and we played one of the alpha gutted teams...

You mean like play every team in your conference, and then take the top 8 and play a single game elimination until a winner is decided?

Funny, but that only crowns the best team in the league, not necessarily the best conference top to bottom.
The best way to do it would be to let the season play out and then let #2 seed in Alpha play #2 seed in Zeta, #3 play #3, etc. But that's tough to do with offseason recruiting, as well as promotions and relegations being processed.
It's not a big deal either way, I just found it interesting that the interconference games went 8-8 this year.
