You don't have to go to war and you really don't have to be in for four full years anymore.

And yes, he's obviously retarded. Didn't you see the avatar?

I do agree that princes DUH!!! Is retarded. I don't agree that he is stupid for asking that. People that don't care about the army may think that you can only be a veteran if you go to war. No need to flame princess Dumbwhore on this one.

There is always a need to flame the flamer, but I don't think the question was stupid. That's why I answered it respectfully and then addressed our resident douche.

I did six years ... Was never deployed and am a Veteran, I was injured in training and receive the full benefits of a vet

in this day in age it is hard to come by kids who respect those who have or are serving

I wont get into this rant ..

I am currently Active duty Coast Guard and am considered a Vet even though we don't actually go front lines.

I served 3 years in the Army, from a statement that I have read a few years ago, only about 5% of Americans serve in the Military. Was deployed in Bosnia back in 96 for 6 months.

What's the minimum number of years you can do? I know nothing about this and I'm looking into joining the marines.

I think it may depend on the branch you want to go into. I know there are 2 year contracts for the Army (not sure if that's initial or a re-enlist, though). It may be 4 or 6 years for the Marines.

Dawg, if you are looking at the Marines, I think theirs is 4 years. I was in the Navy for 4 and we spent some time in Bosnia when I was in. Of course since it was the Navy, I wasn't actually in Bosnia, we floated about 50 miles off shore with a load of Marines just in case.
