RICHMOND (RR) -- Quarterback Khari Jones, formerly of the Blacksburg Ballers in the Canada Pro League has been signed away to the African AA League by the Richmond Raiders. The Ballers were sold this off-season to new ownership and Jones thought this was a great opportunity.
"I just saw a lot of improvement in this team," Jones said who had 5,716 yds and 61 TD's last year in CPL. "The offense looks like it has a lot of room to grow and I would really like to be a part of the process of making this team a perennial contender."
Jones had been with the Ballers 4 and a half seasons. As a rookie Jones was signed by the now defunct Mexican Hitmen the USA Leagues. He split time at quarterback and was unhappy with the situation, which prompted a trade to the Ballers by owner redskins0756.
"I had seen him play quite extensively," said owner redskins0756 who recently sold the Ballers amid the current financial crisis. "He is a rare specimen at that position and makes plays that you can't even believe. I think he will take Richmond far in the playoffs for many years to come and be a huge asset for that team."
In his prolific career Jones has passed for more than 20,000 yds, 161 TD's, and led the Ballers to 5 straight playoff appearances.
The terms of the deal according to the Richmond Raiders, were that Jones signed a 1 year $17.1 million deal. Jones has stated that he would be willing to re-sign this off-season to a longer deal that could exceed 5 years $150 million.
