After just about a week where the Rhinos didn't know where they would play next season, it is finally decided. Therefore they decided to host a press conference to make a final announcement.
"The final decision from Bort and his crew was to swap the Windhoek White Rhinos with Bamako Bite of the Africa Pro League Lion Conference," GM JM, who was sent to repressent the Rhinos, announced with a clear sign of relief.
Obviously it is not the perfect way to promote, which is why it didnt take long before the first journalist asked what everybody had on their mind.
"How does it feel to be promoted in a swap after being a playoff team for 3 seasons without making the final jump from one of the best teams, to THE best team? Wouldn't you like to win the league and earn the promotion?" the journalist asked.
"Well. You play football to win. That's what its all about. So obviously it has been devastating every time we got beat in the playoff, because nothing would have been better than winning a championship. But on the other hand we feel like we have a Pro League-caliber team, and will make the Pro League stronger than it already was. The opportunity to play against a competitive team every game was just too good to pass on, and something we have really missed. Afterall, we have been dominating in the regular season and thought, that the bottom of the league was just not strong enough. But we do have respect for the best teams in the AAA, and i personally believe Zambia Lions is just as good as we are, while teams like Niger Mambas, Buckeye Nation, and Valla Beach Woolsheds, is also very competitive. So while the playoff could be competitive again next season, the regular season would be boring compared to the Pro's. And you dont only want to win. You want to win against the best teams!", JM, the GM of the Rhinos, and agent of Chris Beanie Wells, answered before a journalist interrupted.
"But there is a lot of new teams. Dont you think that the league is strong enough after the additions?"
"Honestly, i don't know. We will wait and see how strong the new teams are. It is already pretty clear some of them have expectations, at least, but maybe they are just cocky? Time will tell. But we also know that a couple of great teams left the league to go Pro already, so the top might not even be as strong as last year. Anyway, we have to do this quick so we can recruit some more players. Last question," JM said, and gave the next question to a young journalist in the back, who looked a bit nervous and inexperieced. But he did give a question that fit very well into what the intention of the press conference, which was saying goodbye after some good seasons where they got to know some of the other owners.
"Any final words to the other teams?," the journalist asked.
"I am glad you asked me that question. First of all, and this is just my personal opinion, not the teams, i will finally have a chance to rout 100 percent for the Buckeye Nation. My bond to the Ohio State Buckeyes does that i hope the Buckeye Nation will win the whole thing. I But in general i would like to say thank you for the good seasons in the AAA, and i hope teams like Buckeye Nation, Zambia Lions, Valla Beach Woolsheds, and Niger Mambas will promote to the Pro League eventually. They are great teams, and have some class-act members."
The journalists were very dissapointed they didn't get permission to ask more questions, but at least they did get some fairly long answers, and the Rhinos felt like the issue was covered enough after this.
