The most fun I've had in this game was back when you could skirt the system and watch a game unfold 'live'. On my teams - several of us would watch it unfold - as the plays happen I assume - and watch the game; posting in the forum all along and things were much more EXCITING.

A sack was cheered - a turnover was great or awful; depending on who came up with it...in all honesty - I would compare it to watching an NFL (or college game) with several buddies; or watching it sitting by yourself - there is a significant difference in those two experiences.

*************
Now - the 'FILM ROOM' would have the game screen at the top where the replay is shown (in this case; i'm actually talking about the play by play WORDS - not the actual replays - but the actual replays could be cool as an option)

Underneath this; would be a chat room - where chatting could take place. The owner of the team (or a GM - the power could be given out) would control the replays - in the sense that he could run replays; whatever (ie show a play again).
***************

There would be a couple of options for the Team Owner:

- He could set it up as a private viewing - so only his team members had access to the chat room during game time.
- He could arrange it with the other team - so that only their 2 teams could access the chat room - this way there could be 'cheering' for both teams and smack talking.
- It could be a public viewing - meaning anyone is allowed into the chat room.

I believe this game has lost a lot of it's 'team building' sense these past few season. Any MMO is built around the people who play it - so anything that encourages team spirit; atta-boys; a sense of team; etc can do nothing but make people more committed to this game.

In addition - people who just log in to check their own stats; or only watch the plays in a game that they were involved in - really aren't great for this game in the long run. You need people hooked. You need people excited to watch the game with their buddies and see how it went - to cheer for your teammates when they make a play - and have them cheer for you when you make one...I think this could be a great tool for team building.

Yes - I know that I could tell my teammates "don't start watching the game until 7pm central time....and watch it on a speed of 7.5 and pause it after every possession so that you can check the forums and make a comment or at least read the comments" - that won't work.

thank you for reading...flame away

Edit:
FYI - Bort responded on page 9:

"Neat idea!

I'd like to set up a chat server or two at some point along the way for private chats, etc. I'll add this to my list of things to look for when browsing feature lists."

edit: removed the original idea (2+ years ago) that the game would be delayed - and only available when owner would make it available. Also changed name from Sports Bar to Film Room

thanks for your input - care to elaborate?

why is it bad to have a chat room - open for an hour or so during the 'game watching' to type:

GREAT PLAY KNICK!! etc.

edit to add:

the chat rooms could even be similar to the private forums - an owner pays a few flex to 'rent out' the sports bar for the season - something like that.

that way bort can recoup some of his programming costs by creating a revenue creating aspect

So basically, a multi-player version of what we have now to "watch" a game (with a chat function on the side to talk)? I like, that's kinda cool.

chat rooms can become a good idea, but just a lot of risk in trash talking going on.

I say it can be done, saw it done in Court Rivals without a problem during the games

not really... theres tons of chatrooms (chatagno? /terrible spelling) you can get for free.

Just not a fan of this at all

He said to have it private for the team, at least that's how I would want to watch it.

yes Jed - that's what i'm talking about.

i guess a few seasons ago no one else here (yet) watched the games unfold live with team mates? if not - you missed a good experience.

ok Knick - your NO is duly noted

and having to organize everyone to start watching at exactly the right time, right speed, all be in some off-site chat room, and keep up with multiple windows is a pain

This would put it all together.

Did once or twice, it went so fast, though, that it wasn't that fun. Given the current interface of it slowly progressing, I think that would be cool.

Very cool idea. Basically let the game unfold (don't have to hit next play) in a seamless manner. Allow designated users to hit "rewind" to watch a big play again, etc.

As long as the owner could control when the "sports bar" was open, it would be really cool.

I remember when we could actually watch the game live. I think most owners/gm's are respectful of eachother, so it may even be kind of cool to have parties of both teams in the chat room, or at least have a couple different rooms to go into. If you talked a bunch of trash before the game to the other owner, you'll probably want to go to the player room, versus the team room. Just a thought.

yes - private for the team..

but there could be an option for 2 owners to agree to allow members from both teams into the viewing room

i agree that a 'public' one could quickly get out of control - so that idea may suck

If there were enough MODS, each room could be assigned a MOD to control the room. Either that, or the conversations are recorded into a file. Each user would have to agree to terms, and if they do not, the file for that room can be quickly looked up and easily traceable. The said player would get banned from the room.

well - i don't think it's going to be practical to assign mods - there are a billion games a day..

but the owners could moderate (or their GM's) just like they moderate the team forums now - primarily by 'muting' people on their own team if they choose..
