#2 Mongolian Horde vs. #1 Krungthep Garudas
Mongolian Horde 16-2
2nd round playoff game
An early Horde turnover deep in their own territory allowed the Mountain Men to get on top early with a field goal. But a Stevie McRun 10 yard 1st quarter run and a Taz Dingo pass to FlameOn in the middle of the 2nd quarter, got Mongolia out to a 14-3 lead. Cambodia immediately answered though with a 59 yard Ian Vucinic pass to Seth Cox to narrow the margin. Taz Dingo found Jimmy Lightning for a 32 yard strike on the next drive to open the margin back up to 21-10. The Mountain Men got a late first half field goal but the Horde lead 21-13 at the half.
Cambodia strikes first in the 2nd half with Cox’s second long TD reception, this one for 62 yards and it was a 1-point game. But the Horde had the answer once again: an 11 play drive ending when Taz Dingo found Magnum Airwalker for a 12 yard score. Cambodia would not go away though. Cox got his third TD reception of the game, a 17 yarder, and the game entered the fourth quarter with the Horde leading 28-27. Another long drive, this one 13 plays including a pivotal 4th and 1 conversion, gave the Horde an 8 point lead again as Stevie McRun plunged over from the one. And when Taz Dingo found slippery Jackson open up the right side for a 67 yard TD pass, the Horde fans began to breathe easier. With just under 4 minutes left, Ian Vucinic found Seth Cox for his 4th touchdown reception (60 yards), but Mongolia was able to run out the clock and advance to the Alpha Championship with the 42-34 win.
For the game, Taz Dingo was 27/41 for 357 yards, with 4 TDs and 1 INT. The trio of Magnum Airwalker, Jimmy Ligntning, and slippery Jackson combined for 19 receptions, with each at or near 100 yards. On the ground, both Stevie McRun and J.P. broke the 100 yard mark. The defense was led by Rolling Black Outs with 6 tackles & 1 sack.

Krungthep Garudas 18-0
2nd round playoff game
After both teams missed field goals on their opening possessions, Algeria took possession with 7 minutes to go in the 1st quarter. 20 plays & 10 minutes later, Joe Kane found Flash Touchdown for a 3 yard TD and a 7-0 Algeria lead. Krungthep then showed they could play that game as they went on a 8 minute scoring drive of their own. Near disaster was avoided though when the Garudas fumbled twice inside the 10 yard line, but Chuang Yamamoto and Broak FoodPile saved the drive with recoveries and Donko von Punchstania plunged in from the one to tie the score at 7. After a three and out, the Garudas were on the move again, driving to the Addiction 6 yard line. This time they didn’t avoid the disaster as Lucky McNutt fumbled after a pass reception and Nick Feely scooped it up and raced 98 yards for the Algeria touchdown to give the Addiction a 14-7 halftime lead.
A big defensive stand by Krungthep early in the 3rd quarter gave them possession at midfield. A Ekapob Ukritnukun pass to Fenris Reaver, a Madrak Ironhide pass to Lucky McNutt, a Ukritnukun pass to DeAndre Cash, and finally, an Ironhide pass to Tyfoi Phevah tied the score at 14. But in the next 13 seconds the wheels fell off for Algeria. After the kickoff, Barium Durium stepped in front of a Joe Kane pass for a pick 6, 24 yard return. Then on the ensuing kickoff, Mike Strecker knocked the ball loose from David Snow and Krungthep’s Sheronus Mackorcus recovered on the Algeria 34 yard line. Six plays later, Madrak Ironhide found Lucky McNutt up the right side for a touchdown and it was all of a sudden a 28-14 Garuda lead. Algeria responded though with a 13 play drive, ending with Name Redacted’s 2 yard TD to get back within one score as the 4th quarter started. Krungthep used of 7 minutes of the quarter on a 13 play drive that ended with a 35 yard field goal and a 31-21 lead. Three incomplete passes lead to Krungthep getting the ball back with 6 minutes to play. They took 11 plays and all but the last minute of play to drive down and tack on another field goal for the final 34-21 margin.
The HB duo of Yuri the Axe & Donko von Punchstania were kept in check, gaining just 47 and 69 yards respectively. QBs Ekapob Ukritnukun & Madrak Ironhide completed 35 of 43 passes combined for over 250 yards. Dexter Matsukado lead the team with his 7 tackles, but the heroes of the game came from that 13 second span in the middle of the 3rd quarter.

Prediction:
Since I have totally sucked in my playoff picks (2-4), so don’t put much weight into this. In fact, I would bet that if you were a betting man, you’d have a better chance of making money by going against my pick. Anyways, here goes:
This is a tough one to call and I really don’t think it will be as close as the rankings might suggest. The Krungthep offense vs. the Mongolian defense is pretty much a push. Two solid units, but nothing game changing with these units. But someone is going to win big – either the Horde offense or the Garuda defense. Taz Dingo obviously will need to play much better than he did in their first matchup against the Garudas. One has to wonder though, given the Horde’s usual offensive output, were they holding their cards tight in that matchup? Otherwise, damn that Krungthep defense is mean (that’s pretty much already been proven) and Taz will struggle again.
I have a sneaky suspicion that the Horde folks have a few new offensive wrinkles for the Garudas this time around. Krungthep caught (some will argue they made) a couple big breaks against the Addiction, about time the ball bounces the other way I am afraid. The Garuda crew has got to love me picking against them since it hasn’t worked for me all season. But one more time for all the marbles, Horde 24 Garudas 13.
On another note, I’d like to publicly thank fool for giving me the opportunity to work with him on these predictions this season. It’s been fun and a great way to get to know the other teams and owners across the league. Sadly, we will once again be losing a couple great owners to AAA (perhaps another reason I route against fool?
), but in a few more years perhaps the Addiction, the Mountain Men, the Elephant Riders, the Toys, and all the rest that have been left in the dust this season, will reunite in AAA. Here’s to a great SE Asia AA#1 league.
