Well, here's round 1. I didn't like the other thread that Padre opened so I opened my own
For this year's postseason I'll try not to do such a bad job predicting, having a whole 1 loss by 2 points last year.
Western Conference
1. Calgary Destroyers
8. Prince George Warriors
Last Meeting: 48-10 Calgary
Breakdown: Calgary beat the snot out of every opponent they played from weeks 2-15, and this should be no different. Theres no real reason to even break it down more.
Prediction: Calgary wins 42-6
4. Shilo Silly Nannies
5. Unsavory Gentlemen
Last Meeting: 24-12 Shilo
Breakdown: This matchup in the playoffs last year was legendary, and I'm pleased to see that these two monsters are meeting in the playoffs again. This matchup is becoming like Ohio/Michigan... you know you're gonna get a good competitive game where the teams know each other well. Unfortunately the Gentlemen's defense isn't what it has been in the past, which was the fuel to their fire. Still, I think the game will be competitive, but the gentlemen are going to have to get a crucial turnover to pull this one out.
Prediction: Shilo wins 17-13
2. Niagara Nightmare
7. Genosha X-men
Last Meeting: 49-27 Niagra
Breakdown: Niagra is a much different team from last year... they actually throw the ball sometimes. What hasn't changed, though, is that they should handle the x-men without too much of a problem as they did in the last contest.
Prediction: Niagra wins 45-24
3. Saskatoon Sasquatch
6. Alberta Irukandji
Last Meeting: 41-7 Saskatoon
Breakdown: Saskatoon is, for me, the third of the top tier teams in the West. They demolished most of their competition, and the Irukandji shouldn't be different. But demolishing cupcakes doesn't make good teams - beating other good teams does.
Prediction: Saskatoon wins 30-13
Eastern Conference
1. Eastside Eagles
8. Cold Lake FREEZE
Last Meeting: 71-17 Eastside
Breakdown: The FREEZE (i thought international caps lock day ended yesterday?) have gone from being a team to not being a team, and back to being a team again all in one season. They're apparently trying to rebuild and become a powerhouse, but this year, they don't have a chance. Consider it a win that your in the playoffs.
Prediction: Eastside wins 56-10
4. Regina Pounders
5. Thunder Bay Hitmen
Last Meeting: 29-26 Regina
Breakdown: This is the toughest and most even matchup in the playoffs over the whole league, but how the teams got here are very different. Regina was on the verge of becoming a powerhouse in the eastern division, whereas Thunderbay has worked their way up from mediocrity. I think Thunder bay has that certain something that you can't really measure for this matchup. I like them to take advantage of the late matchup loss vs Regina and come out on top for the upset.
Prediction: Thunder bay wins 21-20
2. Quebec City Chiefs
7. Alberta Gamblers
Last Meeting: 54-0 Quebec
Breakdown: This game will be a blowout. Alberta is a decent team but Quebec is just that much better.
Prediction: Quebec wins 42-7
3. Flappin' Heads
6. St. John's Fog Devils
Last Meeting: 51-14 Flappin
Breakdown: I'm not your buddy, pal! The Fog devils are certainly an up and down team. They lose to decent teams, but every once and a while pull off a huge upset in a game you never thought they would. Last year it was the regular season game vs Eastside... this year it was the week 16 matchup against the Gentlemen. I don't know if they have it in them to win this game, but they've become less one-dimentional than last year through virtue of better receiving play, so that might help. This game will start close but the heads should pull away eventually.
Prediction: Flappin' wins 42-24
