#8 Tibet Psychonauts at # 1 Krungthep Garudas

Regular season matchup: - Week 14

Krungthep got a late 1st half touchdown pass to lead 23-7 at the half and then pulled away with a couple more scores early in the 2nd half, winning by a final of 47-14.

Krungthep Garudas 16-0

Offense:
This unit is headed by the two-headed monster: Yuri the Axe/ Donko von Punchstania. The pair of HBs have amassed over 7,000 yards on the ground this season. Obviously this starts with a nasty O-line, spearheaded by the rightsiders: OT Chuang Yamamoto & G Blake Masterson. But just when you think “offtackle right”, Ekapob Ukritnukun or Madrak Ironhide has shown the ability to hit a WR on a deep route.

Defense:
This is the staple of the Krungthep team. They have the #1 ranked defense in all of SE Asia AA #1 in nearly all categories. They have only allowed 88 points all season long. Want to try and run on them? They have allowed a -106 yards TOTAL rushing on the season. Yes, a negative 106 yards. Want to try passing against them? Well 8 different guys have at least 5 sacks on the season led by CB Rosco Heater and DE Boris The Pony. Any wonder these guys went undefeated?

-----------

Tibet Psychonauts 7-8-1

Offense:
Tibet relied heavily on the arm of QB Old Brad Johnson all season long. He amassed 3104 yards passing, throwing 38 TDs with 7 INTs. His favorite receive is TE Tony El Gonzalez who 87 receptions and 11 TDs, but WRs Will "Arrow" Franklin and Will Erhalten showed they can find the endzone also as they combined for another 26 TDs. But will the underleveled O-line be able to hold up to the pressure the Garudas will surely bring. The group yielded 46 hurries and 30 sacks on the season. HB Blanc Slate got over 1200 yards rushing on the season and will surely need to be a factor for the Tibet offense.

Defense:
Most teams all season have tried to beat this young squad with the running game. You can bet that leading tackler LB Mike Lewis-Black will be kept busy trying to keep the Garuda backs under control. A decent pass defense is focused on QB pressure, most notably by LB Alonzo Simien and DE Diego Edgerton but more than likely these guys will spend most of their day chasing HBs instead of QBs.

------------

Prediction:
The Psychonauts made a nice showing for themselves in their first season in the league, making the playoffs is quite an achievement. But with a perfect season on the line, I don’t suspect that the Garudas will be victims of a 1st round upset. Look for the Garudas to come out with beaks drawn and put this one away early. Garudas by 30.

#6 Thailand Cheap Toys at #3 San Fran Gold Rush

Regular season matchup: Week 10

The Rush got a late 1st half long TD pass to go to the locker room deadlocked at 17. After the Toys drove down and got a 24 yard field goal in their first possession of the 3rd quarter for a 20-17 lead, both defenses stiffened. With the Gold Rush driving with 2 minutes to go, Joel Mac stepped in front of a Chazz Michael Michaels pass, interecepted it, and returned it 54 yards to put the game away for the Toys, 26-17.

San Fran Gold Rush 14-2

Offense:
There backs, Jonas Ara, Maidjoo Miss, & Devin James all are averaging over 8 yards a carry. QB Chazz Michael Michaels has thrown 43 TDs with just 4 INTs. Then there’s backup QB JJ Rocket, in 115 attempts these season he has 28 TDs and has yet to throw a pick. All of this has been made possible with 5 O-line all over 100 pancakes on the season: J.D. Hog, Brute Middleman, Derrick Deese, Brutus Force, and Chad Alan.

Defense:
This aggressive defense has forced a conference leading 33 fumbles and gotten 119 sacks, again, best in the conference. Teams have found it tough to establish any kind of running game, averaging just 25 yards a game. We all know of DE Rawr Rawr, he of 176 tackles (including 89 sacks). Thailand will have to find a way to contain him, something they did in their first matchup as he got just 4 tackles and 1 hurry.

-----------

Thailand Cheap Toys 12-4

Offense:
The Toys have shown a balanced offensive attack throughout the season. They average 37 passing and 37 rushing plays per game. So, will this one be put in the hands of QB Allan Czervik (4035 yards, 34 TDs, 11 INTs) or HB Hal Hunter (4067 yards, 69 TDs)? The pass protection has been solid, allowing only 5 sacks and 15 hurries on the season, but no doubt the rushing game is their bread and butter and expect them to try and control the time of possession.

Defense:
Their defense has given up an average of just 250 yards a game and forced 51 turnovers, both near the best in the conference. DE Knuckles Nuclear lead the team with 31 sacks on the season while CB Speedy Ándale Gonzalez chipped in 8 INTs, 3 of them returned for touchdowns. Turnovers are their game.

------------

Prediction:
Two of the best turnover forcing defenses go at it here. Expect this one to be a low scoring battle to control the clock and field possession. I see it once again coming down to a big turnover, this time going the Rush way as they break open a close game in the 4th quarter. Gold Rush by 14.

#7 Salford Storm at #2 Mongolian Horde

Regular season matchup: Week 8

The Horde jumped all over the Storm early, as Taz Dingo hooked up with danimal hunter, Long Legzzz, & slippery Jackson for 3 first half TD passes and Mongolia stormed to a 26-0 halftime lead and then put it in cruise control. Salford could manage only 169 yards of total offense and a 4th quarter field goal as they fell 26-3.

Mongolian Horde 14-2

Offense:
QB Taz Dingo runs the show. He threw for nearly 6,000 yards and 63 TDs.WRs Jimmy Lightning, slippery Jackson, and Magnum Airwalker each had over 1,000 yards receiving as they combined for 39 TDs. And a 4th WR, Long Legzzz, actually led the team with 76 receptions. Oh, and you can’t overlook TE Rear End and his 71 receptions. By the way, with all that throwing, Taz was hurried just 16 times all season, resulting in a mere 7 sacks. Throw in a couple 1,000 yard rushers, Stevie McRun & J. P., and you have some offensive fireworks. They have been held under 39 points just 3 times all season – although one of those times was vs. Salford.

Defense:

The pass defense has been suspect at times, allowing 226 yards per game, but most teams have had to abandon the run to play catch up with the Horde offense. DEs Rolling Black Outs (93 tackles, 17 hurries, and 23 sacks) and DE Byrnn Grodo (28 hurries, 18 sacks) lead the defense up front, while CB Joo Got No Skillz (9 INTs – 3 returned for TDs) has been the biggest beneficiary of teams attempts to air it out against the Horde.
-----------

Salford Storm 8-8

Offense:
The Storm’s strength (the passing game) seems to make this a good matchup for them. QBs John Stevens & Quick Jeebs have combined to throw 48 TDs but there has to be concerns over the 40 sacks that have been yielded. WR J.J. Anderson hauled in 124 receptions but 6 different receivers had caught 5 or more TDs. HB Yard Machine did average 6.4 yards/rush, but all indications are that this one will come down to the success of the passing game and the ability of the O-line to protect the QB.

Defense:
Nothing outstanding, but a real solid, balanced, above average defense has kept them in nearly all games. SS Brent Smith Jr. led the team with 114 tackles but this one will probably come down to how well the D-line (headed by DT Extreme Pain and DEs Libor Pospech & Daddy Ilz) can fend off the big Mongolian offensive line.

------------

Prediction:
The Horde comes off a loss to the Metalheads but promise they have been saving some special stuff for a long playoff run. Hard to doubt that they have the talent to do it. Salford has shown flashes of being a very good team this season but have thrown out a clunker or two along the way. They come in having lost their last two regular season games. The Horde won’t need a whole lot of “special stuff” to advance in this one. Horde by 35.

#5 Bangkok Blue Demons at #4 Sault Ste Marie Metalheads

Regular season matchup – Week 12

Bangkok got a 50 yard TD toss early in the 2nd quarter to take a 17-14 lead but 5 turnovers would be their undoing from that time on as the Metalheads but up 24 unanswered points for 38-17 lead early in the 4th quarter. The scoring was capped Lawrence Daniel returned an interception 55 yards for the final TD with just under 2 minutes to play. Final score: Metalheads 52 Blue Demons 24

Sault Ste Marie Metalheads 14-2

Offense:
This balanced offense has shown the ability to move the ball (and score) via the ground or the air. QB Lucas Spaceman directs the offense that depends on moving the chains with a short passing game and an adequate running back by committee approach. They do a 1,000 yard receiver in Fizerul Lohman, but the men that make this engine tick are the big boys up front – lead by G Beano Cook who nearly hit the 200 mark in pancakes this season.

Defense:
Defense is this team’s mark. Opponents have averaged a mere 220 yards of total offense against the Metalheads. They have allowed just 3 rushing TDs all season long. DE Ultra Kill has been all over QBs this season with 54 hurries and 44 sacks and CB Eraser Head had double digit (11) interceptions. Not to mention, the opportunistic defense has scored 11 touchdowns on the season.

-----------

Bangkok Blue Demons 12-4

Offense:
Bangkok is a “pass to open up the run” type of offense. Their short to medium passing game is run by the platoon of QBs Tommy Shot Gun & Justgivea Yuengling. Together, they average more than 300 yards per game through the air. The O-line has done their job all season long, allowing just 14 hurries and 9 sacks. A similar situation exists at HB, where Blue LaNuke & Ferrari Testarossa each got 235 carries on the season for a combined 3500 yards on the season.

Defense:
They have been stout all season again the run, allowing under 50 yards per game and the pass defense isn’t anything to shake a stick at as their 97 sacks is second in the conference - DE Romulox Tarmonster has 41 of these. CB Wow Wow Wubbzy leads the defensive backs with 109 tackles, 58 passes deflected, and 2 touchdowns.

------------

Prediction:
In what should be another offensive shootout, I instead see a couple defenses rising to the occasion. Bangkok seems to have righted their ship after some mid-season blues, but in a game where both teams want to avoid the big mistake, the Metalheads simply out talent the Blue Demons. Metalheads by 3.

Not to mention how slow GLB is. Working on them right now. Will have them all up in the next couple of hours. Before gametime anyways.
