Results rolling in and so far seem very favorable to the West.

Silverymoon takes down North Side, Buffalo drops Klamath Falls, Grand Haven edges Carolina Cardiac Cats, and Spicewood disposes of the Roadfrogs.

Oakland crushes Cleveland, Albuquerque knocks off the other Miami, and the surprise game for my money - Tuscon nearly beats Alpine, losing only by 4 points.

The intact west teams lost exactly 1 game to East competition - and that team was the 8th seed in the West losing by 4 to the 1st seed in the East. Hey all you 6th - 12th place east teams... think you can make the playoffs out west so easy now?

Unless I miscounted, the final tally is west 9, east 7. Our eighth seed came closer to beating Alpine than any other team in the East has. This is not a knock on the East, just a reaffirmation that of how good the 1-9 seeds are in the West (the Bombers will probably join the elite soon enough to make it 1-10 seeds). Can't wait for the playoffs.

Close only counts in horseshoes & hand grenades. We gave up a couple big plays early and turned it over on our side of the field a couple times late. Those four plays led to 24 points. We played well, just not good enough to win. Story of our season really. We are 8-8 and five of those losses were by a total of 15 points. Our chemistry is hurting us, but it's better than it has been in some time.

Either way, we made the show and at this point we're trying to build on any positive we can find.

Good game, Alpine.

Ok, so the west is stronger. Can't hurt that blowouts probably get your teams more money, as well as more experience for your players...

I know nobody in the West asked for them, but can you really deny that having all those gutted teams is an advantage?

Actually blow-outs tend to hurt your defense, as they are of the field most of the time.

They also hurt in that you can get lazy in your game prep if you have 2 or 3 butted teams in a row.

Good game Tucson, you guys have a very good team and I had you top four in the west before the season started (top three without Austin). You have lost several close games and if you get through the first round you will be very dangerous in the west (still, to all the guys above, don't over analyze our game tonight, the result was without meaning for us tonight since the #1 seed was clinched. And in all fairness, NSDK was much closer to beat us, Tucson scored with 0.05 seconds left in our game).

However, I do agree that the western conference is the stronger conference, and if you read my earlier posts, I have never said anything else.

good game by grand haven I honestly expected us to run all over you guys. We should have game planned better because we played right into your hands congrats!

Based on the Grand Haven/ CCC results I say we could be 9-7 in the west, and since 8-8 got you in the playoffs in the west I say we would be a playoff team in the west. Essentially beat 1 of 7 teams and you are in the playoffs, beat 2 you are guaranteed a spot.

I don't think it would be easy but I am confident my team would make the playoffs in the West. With the exceptions of Cleveland and Orlando we have to have a game plan for ever single game which is sometimes difficult particularly for us since our OC quit in the first quarter of the season and Nightstar and I have had to do all the gameplanning. The issue is time and we got caught overlooking teams like the Roadfrogs and even Grand Haven. In the west you have to come up with half of the gameplans because you can run a draw every play and win.

Case in point we had a LB returning punts (and 2 went for TDs today) and had our punter in at QB. He went 3-3 with 2 TD passes....

Anyway - hopefully we'll get to play the 9,10 and 11 teams from the West during the scrimmages and find out how different the middle tier of the two conferences really are as us scoring 200+ against a CPU/gutted team doesn't show much.

It would be an advantage if there were 9 or more of them because the 'ungutted' teams would all make the playoffs.

As far as scouting, it's a Catch-22. I get to take a few games off during the season to work on other things, but gamefilm is useless. Anything works when you win by a hundred or so. The teams from the East get a more accurate representation of opponent strength.

I beg to differ. The fact that you have to gameplan for more games hardly qualifies you as a better team. It just means you get less games where you get to relax. We are the 8 seed in the West. If we were in the East, I think we'd be better than 8-8 and a higher seed than 8.

At the end of the day, this discussion could go on and on and it accomplish nothing. While either side of the argument could be dressed up to look convincing in theory, games are played on the field and until the teams play, ya can't ever tell.

"I AM THE GREATEST", that basically sums up this whole thing, ok now with all the cocky gloating out of the way the real test begins the playoffs i mean the only real east v. west showdown that matters is the championship game, everything else is just peanuts in comparison.

Fair point. But you get way more special teams action!
