Zeta Conference

Key Week 13 Matchups ----- Predictions: 3-1 ----- Score Differential: -15 ----- (-27) + (7) + (8) + (-3)

#1 - Nites vs. Kava Sharks (A Nites win puts them ever closer to the #1 seed. A Vanuatu win muddies the water again and gives the Heat a shot at the #1 seed if they can handle the Gods. What a week!)

BOLD PREDICTION: Nites 38, Kava Sharks 13

ACTUAL RESULT: Nites 37, Kava Sharks 41 (I was basically bang on for the Nites, but the Kava Sharks exploded through the air -- congrats!)

-----

#2 - Heat vs. Gods (Battle for home playoff position and Gods trying to prove this is a top 4, not a top 3. Heat want to close out in style and earn a top spot heading into the playoffs.)

BOLD PREDICTION: Heat 30, Gods 17

ACTUAL RESULT: Heat 34, Gods 14 (A few more points for the heat, a few less points for the Gods, but all in all a pretty solid prediction.)

-----

#3 - Thorny Devils vs. Stingers (Both teams vying not only for playoff position, but for the right to play in the playoffs. A classic first-even match between the new kids from Zeta AAA#1 and AAA#2)

BOLD PREDICTION: Thorny Devils 17, Stingers 15

ACTUAL RESULT: Thorny Devils 24, Stingers 14 (A bit too conservative on my own team, we scored an extra TD, while the Stingers scored only 1 less than predicted.)

-----

#4 - Tiger Sharks vs. Crimson Auha (A loss and the Tiger Sharks are officially eliminated. The Auha need this win to keep up the fight for one of the final playoff spots. Not as big as the matchups above, but just as important for playoff seeding.)

BOLD PREDICTION: Crimson Auha 45, Tiger Sharks 15

ACTUAL RESULT: Crimson Auha 47, Tiger Sharks 20 (Okay, this is getting pretty scary...they'll be on to me soon and know that I can rig the sim....)

-----

Toughest Remaining Schedules

Brisbane Gods (35-4)
- Key Matchups: Week 14 Kava Sharks, Week 15 Nites, Week 16 TIT's (WOW!)

Co-op City Blitz (33-6)
- Key Matchups: Week 14 Heat, Week 15 Kava Sharks, Week 16 Tide (WOW!)

Rawle Tech Titans (24-15)
- Key Matchups: Week 14 Nites, Week 15 Auha, Week 16 Strike

Vanuatu Kava Sharks (21-18)
- Key Matchups: Week 14 Gods, Week 16 Sea Turtles

Fiji Stingers (21-18)
- Key Matchups: Week 14 Incinerators, Week 16 Fighting Squirrels (slightly tougher than VKS due to tougher out of conference match)

Big Island Growas (21-18)
- Key Matchups: Week 15 Heat, Week 16 Mustangs (slightly tougher than Fiji & VKS due to facing a 12-1 team)

Banzai Pipeline 'Nites (21-18)
- Key Matchups: Week 14 Titans, Week 15 Gods (slightly tougher than VKS, Fiji & Big Island due to having two meaningful in-conference matches)

Easiest Remaining Schedules

Brisbane Heat (10-29)
- Key Matchups: Week 14 Blitz, Week 15 Growas (added more for the opponents, but also for seeding)

Melbourne Thorny Devils (13-27)
- Key Matchups: Week 16 Invaders

IC Incinerators (16-23)
- Key Matchups: Week 14 Stingers, Week 16 Pioneers

Tongan Crimson Auha (18-21)
- Key Matchups: Week 15 Titans, Week 16 Burning Pride

Eliminated
- Nauru Tiger Sharks (loss in week 13 officially sends them down the pipe)
- Saipan Fighters (1-5 vs. the teams they can catch with a 4-0 finish. With only 1 meaningful conference game left, they can't even play the role of spoiler this season)
- Jakarta Men O'War (Can't catch any current playoff teams, looking to next season)
- Cleveland Dawg Pound (Can't catch any current playoff teams, looking to next season)
- Great Barrier Reef Sharks (Relegation pending to AAA)

Key Week 14 Matchups

#1 - Gods vs. Kava Sharks (IC has the third easiest schedule remaining and the tiebreaker -- Gods need an upset and some help for a home game, though its unlikely to happen this season.)

BOLD PREDICTION: Kava Sharks 27, Gods 24

#2 - Stingers vs. Incinerators (Fiji wants to bring home a playoff spot and hold the tiebreaker over the Crimson Auha, while IC wants to secure a home game in the playoffs. With two tough games left on the schedule, Fiji needs an upset somewhere, but it doesn't come this week.)

BOLD PREDICTION: Incinerators 33, Stingers 23

#3 - 'Nites vs. Titans (The 'Nites will be foaming at the mouths after what many will consider being upset by Vanuatu in week 13. There is no good time to catch the 'Nites, but the Titans catch them at the absolute worst time. I'm predicting a bloodbath.)

BOLD PREDICTION: 'Nites 52, Titans 13

#4 - Heat vs. Blitz (The Heat are looking to wrap up 1st place and homefield advantage over the last three weeks, while the Blitz need wins and some help to keep their playoff dreams alive. Unfortunately for Co-op, the end of the road is week 14.)

BOLD PREDICTION: Heat 62, Blitz 3

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOLDER PREDICTION:

Alpha Conference

Key Week 13 Matchups ----- Predictions: 1-2 ----- Score Differential: -68 ----- (-15) + (-16) + (-37)

#1 - Mustangs vs. Sea Turtles (The Mustangs are fighting for a home game while the Sea Turtles are fighting for their playoff lives. This should be a good one, and I think the drive to make the playoffs gives Fiji this one in a nail biter.)

BOLD PREDICTION: Sea Turtles 31, Mustangs 30

ACTUAL RESULT: Sea Turtles 13, Mustangs 27 (The Mustangs came through, but it appears I was dyslexic when predicting how many the Sea Turtles would score.)

-----

#2 - Tide vs. Fighting Squirrels (The Tide are looking to secure a top 4 spot and have the advantage right now with a game in hand, while the Fighting Squirrels are just looking right now to lock up a playoff position, or at least they should be! I'm taking the Tide's defense in this one.)

BOLD PREDICTION: Tide 24, Fighting Squirrels 12

ACTUAL RESULT: Tide 17, Fighting Squirrels 21 (Overestimated the Tide's offense by a TD, and again dyslexia strikes with Wagga Wagga.)

-----

#3 - Bandits vs. Machine (This is the last bump in the road for the Machine who only need to keep focused as they can coast into the playoffs. I don't think the Bandits can handle the Machine, but regardless it is an important game for Brisbane in their quest for a playoff spot.)

BOLD PREDICTION: Machine 59, Bandits 10

ACTUAL RESULT: Machine 96, Bandits 10 (Bang on with the Bandits, but highly underestimated the Machine's powerhouse offense...that will teach me for being nice!)

-----

Toughest Remaining Schedules

Grinnell Pioneers (27-12)
- Key Matchups: Week 14 TiT's, Week 15 Bandits, Week 16 Incinerators

Tonga Ikale Tahi (26-13)
Key Matchups: Week 14 Pioneers, Week 15 Mustangs, Week 16 Gods

Canberra Strike (25-14)
- Key Matchups: Week 14 Fighting Squirrels, Week 15 Burning Pride, Week 16 Titans

Wagga Wagga Fighting Squirrels (24-15)
Key Matchups: Week 14 Strike, Week 15 Invaders, Week 16 Stingers

New Zealand Burning Pride (22-17)
Key Matchups: Week 14 Tide, Week 15 Strike, Week 16 Crimson Auha

Brantford Mustangs (20-19)
Key Matchups: Week 15 TiT's, Week 16 Growas

Easiest Remaining Schedules

Mean Machine (5-34)
- Key Matchups: None

Brisbane Bandits (9-30)
- Key Matchups: Week 15 Pioneers

East Coast Tide (16-23)
Key Matchups: Week 14 Burning Pride (slightly easier than Invaders due to easier out of conference match)

West Scranton Invaders (16-23)
Key Matchups: Week 15 Fighting Squirrels, Week 16 Thorny Devils

Fiji Sea Turtles (17-22)
Key Matchups: Week 16 Kava Sharks

Eliminated
- Perth Scorpions (officially eliminated in week 13)
- Emerald City Flying Monkeys (While they could achieve 6-wins, the W/L vs. teams above they could tie knocks them out)
- Auckland Flames (While they could achieve 6-wins, the W/L vs. teams above they could tie knocks them out)
- Aussie Cardinals (While they could achieve 6-wins, the W/L vs. teams above they could tie knocks them out)
- New Zealand Warriors (Relegation Pending)

Key Week 14 Matchups

#1 - Pioneers vs. TiT's (The Pioneers are clinging to the final playoff spot, and appears to be catching a sagging bunch of TiT's. I don't think they've drooped so much that they can't pull off a win over the Pro Rookies from Grinnell.)

BOLD PREDICTION: TiT's 38, Pioneers 23

#2 - Strike vs. Fighting Squirrels (If the Strike are serious about a run for the playoffs, this is the week to start. However, Wagga Wagga is no easy win as the Tide just found out. The Fighting Squirrels have too much late season fight in them and crush Canberra's hopes in Week 14.)

BOLD PREDICTION: Fighting Squirrels 30, Strike 17

#3 - Burning Pride vs. Tide (The battle for a home playoff spot gets no better than this game between the upstart Burning Pride and the Tide, who have held an upper spot all season. New Zealand continues their run up the charts in the closest battle of the week.)

BOLD PREDICTION: Burning Pride 27, Tide 26

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOLDER PREDICTION:

Alpha Conference Final Regular Season Standings

1. Mean Machine (16-0)
2. Tonga Ikale Tahi (15-1)
3. West Scranton Invaders (14-2)
4. New Zealand Burning Pride (12-4)
5. East Coast Tide (11-5)
6. Brantford Mustangs (11-5)
7. Wagga Wagga Fighting Squirrels (10-6)
8. Fiji Sea Turtles (8-8)
----
9. Grinnell Pioneers (8-8)
10. Brisbane Bandits (7-9)
11. Canberra Strike (6-10)
12. Emerald City Flying Monkeys (4-12)
13. Perth Scorpions (3-13)
14. Auckland Flames (2-14)
15. Aussie Cardinals (2-14)
16. New Zealand Warriors (0-16)

I honestly hope I'm wrong...or else Melbourne is staring down the past two seasons champs in round 1

EDIT: It will actually be on us to pull off a week 16 upset which could move us into 5th place...unless the Gods pull off an upset of their own. Will be fun watching this all unfold.

DOUBLE EDIT: Mind you, that gives us a 1st round match vs. IC, who laid the biggest beating against us this season....

The Ikale Tahi will be working hard to win out, but Grinnell and Brantford will not make it easy. Bottom line is we need to win at least 2 of our next three to guarantee the 2-seed.

If this was game 1 of the season, I would have considered TiT's vs. Pioneers a game decided by 3 or less, based on what I had watched from GP from my days in AAA#2.

At this point, I have to concede a bigger victory to the TiT's, as you've really only had 1 hiccup this season, and it was against a ridiculous team that was PRO-caliber last season lol
