What was thought by many to be a belated April Fools joke has turned out to be the genuine article. The Mayan Marauders, who have recently been promoted to the AA-Zeta conference, broke new ground in more than just stadium construction when they signed Valerie Kyrie as a backup Tight End.
Some sports followers may remember Kyrie as the runner-up in the 2000 Ms. Olympia competition. She is listed as just under 2 meters tall (6'5") and 112.5 kilos (248 lbs). Several sports promoters have already begun referring to her as the "Duece-fifty Diva", a reference to her weight in the English system, the "Amazing Amazon", and the "Female Phenom".
Despite initial concerns of introducing a woman to a traditionally male environment, it seems that the Mayans have welcomed the new addition.
Team owner Maz said, "I told her I had no problem with signing her, but I wouldn't be building a separate locker room for her." When asked what her response was, Maz laughed and quote, "'She said if they hadn't seen it by now, chances are they wouldn't know what to do with it.'"
When asked if she had concerns about overzealous attention from the other players, Kyrie had this to say, "Considering I am the fourth tallest person on the team by about an inch, and I outweigh any non-lineman on both offense AND defense, I think I can handle myself just fine. I was born and raised in Tennessee, and have done my fair share of wrasslin' with boys."
Kyrie will be suiting up for the first time Sunday night when the Mayans take on the new expansion team, the 'Denver' Rough-riders.
