The crowds flocked in today to a packed Seaview for the season opener against Hamburg Likedeeler. The German side were heavy favourites coming into this game as most of the Super Crues roster was filled out by clearly sub-standard lower level semi-proffesionel players (cpus).

The smell of stale burgers and crusty baps hung in the air as the Crues Afmo Skullcrusher kicked off. The ground rung to cries of 'shocking crusaders' as Hamburg's Bill walker returned the kickoff 30 yards. The faithful Crues men were treated to a sack early on as Derik Beach powered his way through the line on the first play of the game. A short 3 and out series led to a punt. On Crusaders first play the fans were treated to something special, as star Runningback Barry Blasstrong took off on a 22 yard run, skipping past would-be tacklers with ease. This drive culminated in a 22 yard field goal from Skullcrusher.

After a possesion each Hamburg took the lead with a 70 yard drive which included no less than 4 3rd down conversions! The ever 'optimistic' Crusader fans told the Hamburg faithful where they could stick their Touchdown.

Sure enough on the next drive Blaststrong delivered the goods with an 18 yard run, evading 2 tackles and celebrating with his customary crowd dive. Two Hamburg supporters were hospitalized after the celebrations were concluded. Hamburg equalised through a field goal to end the first half.

With the Hatchetmen receiving, a well managed drive from Danish quaterback Olaf Jensen resulted in another Blaststrong touchdown. This proved to be the winning score as anbother field goal apiece settled afairs. A consumate performance from all of the Crusaders backs helped secure this win, they now head on the road to Montcug, hoping for another upset.
