Much has happened in the span of a week; perennial #1 Saskatchewan Sasquatches fell to their in-town rivals. The once great Icemen are now officially gutted. Some teams that were one win teams now have four wins. All that to say...it's a great league here =)
Team/Record
1) Cheyenne Mountain Air Force/7-0
With a 17 point win over QC and a 22 point win over St. John's, they are clearly the team to beat in the East...and A6's top team. Can anyone trip them up before the playoffs? Don't count on it...only Halifax and Nebraska have a real shot at that.
2) Vinland Vikings/7-0
They escaped Revelstoke with a four point win and Cold Lake with a one point victory...but they haven't lost. I'm real curious to see how this team does against the Beavers and Sasquatches. I suspect they'll lose to one of those teams just because it's so hard to go undefeated.
3) Saskatchewan Beavers/6-1
They pulled off a repeat of last year's biggest playoff upset, beating their in-town rival, the Sasquatches. They've never been ranked this high before. Can they stay here? With their next game against the Smoke, I suspect they will...but the game after against Hillsburgh will be a stiff test.
4) Saskatchewan Sasquatches/6-1
A 3 point loss to the Beavers is their first regular season loss in nearly two full seasons. A big test against Cold Lake tonight will be pivotal, as will late season matches against Vinland and Revelstoke.
5) St. John's Salty Dogs/6-1
Gotta give this team credit; they are greatly improved over last season and started much better. A loss to #1 Cheyenne is their only blemish, and they might win the rest of their games this season.
6) Hillsburgh Hillbillies/6-1
Their only quality win was over Revelstoke or I might rank them higher. They still have plenty of quality match ups left this season...and I don't expect them to win them all. They're battling for a home playoff game.
7) Cold Lake Wolverines/5-2
If I could give an owner a reward for saving a sold team, Uenvy would get it...but he also inherited a team with plenty of talent. Cold Lake is right in the thick of things and the game against the Sasquatches tonight is huge.
8) Queen City Black Cats/5-2
Yes, they got beat by Cheyenne and St. John's, but they crushed Halifax and squeaked by Nebraska. They only have two challenges remaining this season: Lone Star and the Beavers.
9) Nebraska Husker Maniacs/5-2
They seem to drop one game every year that is a head scratcher. Don't get me wrong, though, this is a very good team and I can't wait to see them play St. John's in two games.
10) Halifax Hashishim/6-1
Kind of like Hillsburgh, the only team they've beaten of quality is Lone Star...but they got soundly beaten by QC, which is why they're lower. How will they do tonight against St. John's? I don't expect it to go very well for Halifax.
11) The Free Roaming Flaming Stallions/6-1
This team is more a product of their record than their talent. I expect them to slip down the rankings as the season goes on.
12) Calgary Thunder/4-3
I mentioned in the first rankings that Calgary had a brutal upcoming schedule and needed to find a way to win one of the tough ones...well, they didn't. However, they are still in good position to make the playoffs. I don't think they'll go as far as they did last season the way they're playing though.
13) Revelstoke Revolution/4-3
This team had a poor record last rankings, but I noted that they've played some very good teams. Now they've gotten to play some not so good teams and their record is much better. They're a tough challenge for any team, but they aren't in the elite yet.
14) The Lone Star Caballeros/4-3
They pulled out the shocker of the week in beating Nebraska...but they'll have to do that several more times to really make a statement in the East.
15) Flint Tropics/5-2
They get my vote as the East's second most improved team next to Cheyenne. Big grats to the owner...now keep up the good work!
16) Saskatoon Shredders/5-2
I think they'll lose 6 of their remaining nine games to finish the season at 8-8. I just don't think they're quite good enough to really compete in the tough West this season.
17) New Orleans Ghost Riders/3-4
Chemistry is really hurting this team. They've got some talent...they just need to sit pat and let the chem grow.
18) Barkmere Bulldawgs/4-3
They've made some strides over last season, but they still aren't good.
19) Toronto Smoke/3-4
They've moved into the top twenty! Can they continue moving up, though? Their next six games are pretty brutal...so don't count on it.
20) In San Jose Pimpin Aint Easy/2-5
At least they'll beat the real easy teams.
21) Calgary Wrestlers/1-6
Still sad this this once scrappy team just rolls over and dies now.
22) Ballina Big Prawns/2-5
At least this team tries. They're a lot better than some of the teams below them.
23) Jeanland Jeaniacs/2-5
Big lack of talent here.
Trying to find good things to say about these other teams is near impossible...so I'll just not say anything about them.
24) Bloodweiser Bugle All Stars/2-5
25) Portsmouth Cavaliers/1-6
26) Kelowna Outlaws/1-6
27) Manitoba Icemen/2-5
28) Ottawa Black Wolves/1-6
29) The Hundredth Meridians Road Apples/1-6
30) Quebec Boreal/0-7
31) Peterborough Preachers/0-7
32) Castlegar Crusaders/0-7
