Ah, another 6-1 week has me at 32-3 in predictions so far this season. Not too shabby in this deep conference. Those damn Malice foiled me again! Not an abundance of big games this week imo, so I'll skirt through them a little.
GOTW 1*Kinshasa Rumblers 4-2 @ Morocco Camels 6-0
Camels are on a roll, but really got away with one against the Drifters. They can't overlook a very good Rumblers team who has two quality wins this season already. Rumblers like to throw the ball and as the Drifters showed, the Camels might struggle to stop a solid air attack. Of course, that's the same game plan against us and we creamed the Rumblers 44-0. With that in mind, Camels stay unbeaten this week.
Camels 31 Rumblers 17
GOTW 2*River Styx Jinx 3-3 @ Los Angeles eXtreme 5-1
The Jinx have only 1 quality win so far this season and look to get that marquee victory this week over one of the perennial great teams in Elephant, the eXtreme. LAX hasn't slowed down this season and look to stay atop the conference. Last season, these two had a great battle with the eXtreme coming out on top 17-14. The match ups call for another defensive struggle as these teams are better at passing and at stopping the pass. Neither has a strong ground game and I believe this one will come down to who makes more stops. Going to go with the upset here.
Jinx 14 eXtreme 13
GOTW 3*Eaton Beavers 4-2 @ San Dimas Saints 5-1
Our last two match ups have come down to the final seconds. When looking at the match up screens, you see almost identical teams. The Saints obviously prefer to pass (#1 in the conference) while we prefer to run (#1 in the conference), but both are capable of doing the opposite. Saints are #1 in scoring and we're #4. The defenses are no slouches with the Saints #1 against the pass and the Beavers #1 against the run. Ironically both teams are best built to stop themselves. That said, I expect turnovers to be the difference and hope to be on the good end of that. This is a game that down the road could decide home field for one of the teams. Good luck San Dimas!
High Plains Drifters 5-1 @ Serengeti Wildebeest 2-4
Drifters fall from the ranks of the unbeaten, but did so with their heads up high. They proved beyond any doubt that they are one of the elite teams in this league now. With their stadium, no one needs home field playoff games more than them. They've played one hell of a stretch of games and come through very well. They get a break here before a big time match up with the Saints next week.
Drifters 90 Wildebeest 3
The ALL 0-6 @ Mogadishu Malice 4-2
6-2 Mogadishu Malice. How does that sound? With wins over LAX and GC, they deserve it. They still have some work today to guarantee themselves a playoff spot with a ton of big games in the 2nd half of the season, but they've definitely put themselves in the position to get one. I'm somewhat annoyed that the schedules lined up so everyone gets two games off before they face us, lol, but we'll see the MM in week 9.
Malice 102 ALL 0
Kampala Kerels 0-6 @ Mozambique Thundercats 3-3
Thundercats ho!!
Thundercats 95 Kerels 3
Kilimanjaro Sno Caps 3-3 @ African Killer Bees 2-4
Both the Sno Caps and the Bees only have 1 win worth noting, each beating the Malice. The Sno Caps don't seem to want to change their strategy that they think they can run it all day up here and that's going to work. If they do that against the Bees, the Bees will gladly take the easy victory. On the other side, the Sno Caps haven't really been able to stop the run either. The Bees can finally give their run down secondary a break and grind their way to a victory.
Bees 27 Sno Caps 10
Gold Coast Corsairs 2-4 @ Sahara Sandstorm 0-6
Oh where oh where has Rod Long gone? Oh wait, look at his team's record.
