I noticed that tackling is a minor skill, for all offensive linemen, which improves evey time the player levels up. I was wondering if this is an important skill for an offensive lineman. Is this a skill that is worth training?

Catching is a minor skill for quarterbacks. Throwing is a minor skill for running backs. Tackling is a minor skill for TE/FB. Blocking is a minor skill for safeties. Carrying is a minor skill for safeties and defensive backs.

Blocking isn't a minor skill for WRs.

Carrying actually is somewhat useful for DBs, since a lot of corners return kicks and carry=better running with the ball. Not "dump points in and softcap" useful, or even worth training, but it does help.

Tackling *should* be an important skill for OTs.

I've heard some claim it can create more pancakes. Anyone else seen this to be so?

Don't waste your time training tackling, just start threads in the suggestion forums to get Bort to change it from Tackling to Speed.

Aren't there threads where Bort has specifically said tackling does not help an offensive lineman?

Yes, too long ago for me to find. It was when he removed the tackling bar (season 3?). I have no clue why tackling is a minor for any of the o-line. It makes sense for P/K, but I still don't get it for the o-line.

There seems to be a consensus opinion surrounding blocking for D-Linemen, so maybe there is some truth to this.

Not only is there consensus opinion surrounding blocking for D-linemen, Bort explicitely stated that blocking is in the "break block" formula, but a small part of it. I'm not going to find it again, because I believe myself, but if you want to see it it is in the 1300 post thread in the GLB forum about power backs. Within the first 40 pages as I stopped reading then, just skim for Bort posts shouldn't take you too long.

I'm keeping it on the downlow, but I like to share with my o-line buddies. My DE will eventually train blocking to 30 as a result of the said post, but not for a while

Also, Bort explicitly stated tackling (and jumping) does not help o-linemen. You are the last line of defense except the weak QB if there is a fumble/interception, which warrants it as a minor. OTs getting so much was just a mistake by Bort by putting too few minors.

He said this when he removed the Tackling scouting bar from the o-line, stating that he only put it there because he didn't want an empty space, and obviously later regret that decision when 50 tackling OTs started popping up.

Additionally, blocking for d-line =/= tackling for o-line. O-line blocks the d-line. D-line doesn't tackle the o-line... A more valid analogy would be HBs needing tackling, IMO, which... I'd never bother with :-D
