I'd have to disagree...USC lost to the same team just a year or two ago...

Except in college football, two years is an ETERNITY. Oregon St. of now is not the Oregon St. of 2 years ago. Same with USC. All the east coasters are so quick to dismiss USC because they play out west where college football isn't as important. We have other things to do with our time on the west coast other than watch 20 year old kids and in-breed with our sisters.

USC is a good team who was playing a mediocre team on a short week (thursday) and simply just over looked them. Oregon St. punched them in the mouth and they never recovered.

Hell, there was even media talk that if USC ran the table they STILL wouldn't get into a title game. The east coast/southern bias that permeates sports is just sad. Everything is about the east coast. In football its all about the southeast. There are some good sports teams out here but everyone has to get down on their knees worship everything east of the Mississippi and its just lame.

Even when USC PASTED Ohio St. it was quickly dismissed as "no Beanie Wells" or "Why didn't Tressel use Pryor more?" It was never that USC was a great football team, it was always about the eastern team doing something wrong. The Pac 10 got pasted that weekend and everyone only talked about USC's schedule was their downfall. USC will have more players drafted in the first two or three rounds and more in the first round than any other college football team this year. They let down for a game and got beat. Doesn't change the fact that they are still a top 5 team.

I am so tired of hearing about east coast anything. Who's got the best record in Baseball? Angels. Who do we hear about non stop till our ears bleed? Yanks and Sox. The Yankees were not that good this year and yet we hear about them non stop. How many other THIRD place teams do we hear about? Name one. Can we talk about a 2nd place team MORE than the Red Sox? Twins? Nah, dont wanna talk about them. College basketball is the same way, the media just straight chose to ignore UCLA, who was one of the best teams in the country. All I heard was how they could get beat. Final Four though and it took a perfect game to beat them. Pro basketball too. If i have to see the abysmal Heat or Knicks play one more game I am just going to stab myself in the eye. Can I get some more San Antonio Spurs? Please, god NO. Can I get a nationally televised Warriors game? Nope, even though they are entertaining to watch and win games. Its a good thing we have the Lakers (who I hate), otherwise there would be no reason to watch the NBA out here. Its Boston, Knicks, Lakers, Cavs, Heat. Funk that.

USC was the biggest upset because they were the #1 team. I dont even like college football (or USC for that matter).

/end rant

How can you say that anyone is dismissing USC when prior to that game they received all but 2 first place votes? All I heard the past few weeks was who would USC play in the title game? Now, all I hear is that USC has a shot to be a one loss team and still make it to the game, especially if Texas were to take out Oklahoma.

Also, how could you say that all anyone talks about in sports is east of the Mississippi? Last time I checked, the state of Texas (biggest football state in the union) was WEST of the Mississippi...

Damn, Shardaddy hati'n on us Southern boys. I take offense to that. I love College Football, and have to disagree, USC is a powerhouse regardless of record. The difference is, USC plays like teams in the SEC and ACC, not like other teams in the Pac10 or Big 12, they are a team run just like the speedsters from the South!

But you are right, the South takes great pride in football. But you guys have the same story in Baseball. Southern Cali, AZ, TX, ORE...all those schools in those areas can swing a stick! It's not very often you see SEC or ACC teams in the College World series.

But you are right, all you hear about are the Damn Yankees and Red Sox...(I'm a Braves fan). But do you know why that is? Those two teams have more money than probably the whole national league combined (if you leave out the Cubs). Therefore, they are able to market their team and bring in a shit load of cash. I truly don't think you hear about them because of "how good they are" but because of how much they market!!!

where is Rice from? South texas or west texas?

The problem is the college town, on the west coast, is dead. At least those with football programs. Its alive and well in the south.

USC has a "tiny" bit of sports competition from LA markets. There are like 3 college towns left in california schools, and the only one with a football team thats D1 is Berkeley. And even Berkeley has a lot of bay area competition.

Rice is in Houston.

Cal wiped the floor with my Ags a couple of bowl games ago. Ugh, thank God Fran is gone.

What ever happened to Washington and Washington State? They used to be really good in the 80's and they've stunk ever since.
