Interesting week in Zeta as the current top 8 teams go head to head. The first three matches are especially exciting as these games are certain to have playoff seeding repercussions later on. Too hard to call a single game of the week, so I bring you three:
Zeta Games of the Week - Triple Play Edition:
San Fran Gold Rush at Bangkok Blue Demons:
The Rush are in for one of their toughest matches of the season, as they go demon hunting in dangerous Bangkok. Both teams are capable opponents and the result could go either way, but the Demons are able to capitalize on a San Fran weakness at the OT position, where tackles Biggie Slims and Spencer Ford seem to have taken an extended leave. Blue Demons get it done in a close one. BLUE DEMONS by 3
Thailand Cheap Toys at The Elephant Riders:
The cheap Toys face their first real test of the season, playing a surging Riders team away from the comforts of home. The Elephant Riders have just come off an impressive victory over the Flames. Thailand are a lot better team this year than they were last year, but I don't see them getting over this hump. ELEPHANT RIDERS by 14
Singapore Flames at Sault Ste Marie Metalheads:
This promises to be another action packed Zeta game this week as these two titans clash on the gridiron. Another match that will be decided by mostly luck, this one could easily go either way. That being said, I just don't see the Flames losing two in a row. Singapore ekes out a W in a close battle. FLAMES by 6
----------
Vietnam Villains at SBI Waves:
It's the villains who will feel like calling law enforcement after the Waves bend them in a southerly fashion and rapes them for score after score. This one will be ugly. WAVES by 35
Thung Yai Tigers at The Pretenders:
The Tigers have had a rough start to the season despite making some strides in the off season. Scheduled against 4 of Zeta's toughest teams, they have dropped to 0-4 and need to start winning games ASAP lest their playoffs hopes be completely dashed. Unfortunately for them, they face a mean up and comer in the Pretenders this week who are going to use their arms, legs, style, sidestep, fingers, and their, their, their imagination to get the win. PRETENDERS by 7
Midway Maulers at Kapres Pride:
Midway fresh from getting spanked by two top Zeta teams is looking to maul all over Kapres' Pride parade. The Pride will be waving their rainbow flags in surrender before halftime. MAULERS by 30
Manila Envelopes at Kyoto Samurai:
The way Manila has been playing, Kyoto uses its katanas as nothing more than glorified letter openers. Not a satisfying opponent or victory, but a win is a win. SAMURAI by 27
Garut Fire Horses at Da Nang Yellow Jackets:
Garut breaks out fast from the starting gate, and never slows down. It's a runaway blow-out. FIRE HORSES by 35
Added Bonus - Singapore Flames Interview - Part One
The Singapore Flames are one of the oldest and most respected teams in the league. A perennial powerhouse and contender, they are one of the few teams in the league that can play and beat anybody.
During the next couple of weeks where I cover the Zeta Games, as an added bonus, I will be conducting an interview with the owners and GM's of the Flames. I've asked them some pretty good questions and got some great responses but if you have any questions of your own concerning the Flames, please PM me with them, and I'll try to include them as well.
Tell me about the history of the team. When did you buy it? How did you decide upon the name Singapore Flames? What else was on the short list, were you considering other names as well?
I bought the team when it was all cpu in season 1. league had just been set up and the first season was only 6 games long. That first season we played Demons and Hustlers and even back then we were notching up W's against them.

Replaced the roster with human players and a lot of these players still remain on the team today. Seems along time ago and I'm sure recruiting was easier then that it is now. Wasnt much science in it back then and was just who ever wanted to join was signed.
Singapore Flames was actually the cpu name and we just never changed it. I think at the time I probably never knew you could, but name has stuck and wouldn't dream about changing it now.
How did you recruit your GM staff? Are they real life friends, agents of key players on the team, did you meet them on other GLB teams, etc.? What duties does each one have? Who runs offense, who is DC? what is Angel-Michael in charge of now that his primary responsibility of pissing off the Hustlers is no longer needed?
Of the GM's CelticRaider, Suphenom and Pimp were players I signed in season 1 and know them through the game. Most of us have just come together through the game.
Moe joined I think end of season 3 and is my right hand man.
Angel also joined around about then and brought good energy to the team. Angel and Suphenom are good mates and do the flaming on the SEA forum. Potential ban always around the corner with these guys.
Potential reshuffle with GM's, but as it stands
Angel is OC assisted by Suphenom.
Myself and Moebuis look after the DC and cover the O when needed.
Pimp is stadium director and looks after our 55,000 seater stadium "The Firepit".
