I was thinking about last year's probowl results and it seems like the process needs to be changed to improve the results. Here's what I propose. This is a rough draft and really just a starting point for discussion.
The biggest problem I see is that when we have to vote we need to scour the league stats (which dont show position) and try to find the best players. It takes too much damn time and people dont often do enough work to make an educated vote. Also, currently we only select a starting team so there's not much margin for error. It seems more appropriate that we do starting and backup probowlers like most sports have in their all-star games.
What I propose is for each team to nominate 13(or less) players from their team that they believe should be considered--thirteen being half the number of starters including special teams. With the nomination, they'll give each players stats and an argument for why they should be considered (just a sentence or two).
The nominations could be submitted around week 13-15 and then a list can be posted that shows all of the players that were nominated at each position. Then the voting takes place during the playoffs. Each team will vote two players at each position and we'll take a 1st and 2nd team from the results.
This way each team researches it's own players, present an argument and nobody else has to do any exhaustive research. We just pick from a list and everybody makes decisions based off the same evidence. The work of research is done by motivated people since they're trying to get their guys voted in, and it's also done by the team that knows the most about the players.
