The Blica Bulletin - Issue 18 – “Blicas come through hard Monkeehs”

Written By Herouk87

St Michael
– The Flying Monkey Armada put in a very respectable performance today but were still defeated by the St Michael Blicas. Having gone most of the season as the alpha whipping boys (besides the Vatican City Popes of course) the Armada nearly conjured up some magic as they put a scare into the Blica faithful.

Enough though St Michael were expected to pile up a huge tally today that plan went out of the window in the first quarter. It was a 14 play drive orchestrated by Salisbury Slim that finished in an Andy Y. Smith FG sending the KiamoKo MonkeehCage into raptures. Master vader; who was leading the St Michael offense after a solid outing against Barcelona last week, couldn’t get his offense to gel as St Michael struggled in the first quarter. After the first play of the second quarter the scores were tied following a FG from Gazoo Gramatica. Needless to say there was much room for improvement.

Seeing the scores being levelled up didn’t deter the Armada though, on their next drive Slim hit Nabeel Hamid for a TD. Suddenly the talk was no longer about damage limitation, people were asking whether the Monkeehs could get an albeit meaningless victory over a much stronger team. But you can never keep a good team down and as the clock winded down in the second quarter St Michael levelled the scores for a second time. Dillon McKay running in behind great blocking from Baller T and the O-line. St Michael turned the screw once again when Gramatica hit his second FG just before the half meaning that the Blicas took a slim 13-10 lead in at the break.

The second half seemed to be a completely different story as St Michael came out with a point to prove. Harsh words must have been said in the locker room by xblica as they instantly went about winning the ball game. Bary Sanders stretching their lead to 10 points on the first drive of the third with a TD. From there the Flying Monkeeh Armada never looked threatening again as Clive Picot grabbed a pass out of the air which gave Gramatica the opportunity to add another three which he duly obliged to.

The fourth quarter continued in a similar vein of St Michael adding points slowly and the defence just simply stopping the Armada. Afro Samuraii picked off a Rudd King pass and that was the last chance that the Flying Monkeehs had in the game, going down 26-10.

No matter how meaningless these games are St Michael will be thinking that a W is a W as they look to go into the offseason with 4 wins out of 4. However next week comes their strongest test next week as they return home to play the Rennes Corsairs who finished 9th in alpha this season. If the Blicas can pull off the victory against Jordan Né and Lionel LeBourhis then they will be thinking that anything is possible come next season.

Great article as always and definitely a great game played by both sides with St. Michael's pulling away at the end. I've read most of your articles and am glad to finally have our team immortalized by your words even tho we were on the losing end. I will continue to read up here as well as the rest of this league's forum. Our team will only get better from here and we hope to be back amongst you guys in the near future. Best of luck to your Blicas as well as the rest of the league.
