The Blica Bulletin – Issue 18 – “Blica Beat Spineless Razor-backs"
Written by Herouk87
St Michael – It is said that revenge is sweet and that was most definitely the case today as St Michael exacted some revenge on a hapless Barcelona Razorback side. Despite Barca being in Alpha the two teams have met before in week 16 last season with the Spaniards taking the spoils, but this time a controlled all round performance from the Blica’s got them the W.
The game started with both defences firmly on top. It was the Razorbacks who started to make the first move snapping Eric MartinsQB titanic run of 1 GAME without an INT, a record which may not be bettered for a long time. Will Hoglund picking off MartinsQB to give Barca a real chance, however the Blica D were up to the task and forced the razorbacks to punt. St Michael made a better fist of it on their next drive, taking the ball deep into the red zone where Gazoo Gramatica missed an easy cheap shot. Gazoo must prefer the high pressure situations. Both teams seemed to be able to string together strong drives but eventually falling short. 3 FG’s made the score at the half a well poised 6-3 to St Michael with it all to play for in the second half.
The third quarter continued in a similar fashion with Kicker Sheldon J. Plankton adding the only points of the quarter after Ryann Mallett moved the chains with accurate passing to his receivers. A so far dull game was livened up when James Braddock fumbled near the end of the quarter. Luckily for Braddock Bary Sanders was on hand to recover a fumble for once. From there MartinsQB regained his composure before Gramatica added another FG at the beginning of the fourth 9-6 to St Michael.
The Blicas finally seemed to jump into action as the clock wound down. Brandon O'neil making a game changing play for the second week in a row when he intercepted Mallett. Now it was up to master vader to lead the Blicas to glory. He completed on two key 3rd and long passes and his perseverance was rewarded when Sanders dived in from a yard. This vital TD was the straw that broke Barcelona’s Razorback’s, the alpha squad unable to come back from there as St Michael held on for an easy win 19-6 after a Gramatica FG.
Bary Sanders and O’neil can take the plaudits from today’s game as they both were essential parts of today’s winning performance. Expect St Michael’s winning streak to continue next week as they play the much maligned Flying Monkeeh Armada who went 1-15 in Alpha this season, getting shut out on no fewer than 12 occasions. Seems the Blica’s have hit form at precisely the wrong time.
