The Blica Bulletin – Issue 16 – "Blica’s Finale ends with “Knight” to forget"
Written By Herouk87
St Michael – As the sun went down on another somewhat disappointing season for the St Michael Blicas, fans were left thinking “if only”. A season of near misses and close losses ended with a comprehensive win for the Yorkshire Knights.
The game couldn’t have started in a worse way for St Michael with Limper McNadden breaking two Blica tackles before putting the Knights up 7-0 with only 3 minutes gone. St Michael did get going later in the quarter though when a John Hellfighter pass was picked off by The Cornerback, but the Blicas couldn’t capitalize and were forced to punt. This is when Hellfighter made amends for his earlier error. Hellfighter hit Fernando Carpenter who got the better of The Cornerback to put Yorkshire up 14-0 with the Knights in menacing position at the end of the first quarter.
Yorkshire wasted no time in building on their score, getting their third TD of the game on the first play of the second quarter. Almost a mirror image of Carpenter’s first TD except it was Afro Samuraii who was chasing shadows on the right hand side of the field. St Michael did put together a decent drive in response which got them a rare red zone opportunity but the danger was neutralised when Jackson La Plante hurried Eric MartinsQB who threw an INT to the waiting Christian Allen. Yorkshire looked to be in imperious form as they then went on an 86 yard drive which finished in Hellfighter hitting Travis Shelton from 17 yards out.
Any Blica resistance was few and far between; the best moment came when The NoseTackle picked off Hellfighter and broke half the tackles of half the Yorkshire offense on a crowd pleasing return. Gazoo Gramatica hit a FG to get St Michael on the board before half time with the score at the half 28-3.
The second half started in a classic struggle. Both sides seemed able to string together decent looking drives but always fell apart before any real threat materialised, eventually the battle for field position was won by the Knights when Sherman Bigboot hit a FG at the beginning of the fourth quarter to stretch their unassailable lead to 28 points. Bigboot added another FG with 6 minutes remaining as both teams seemed content to just go through the motions and run out the clock. The final score from Mile High Blica was a resounding win for Yorkshire, 34-3.
The game ball for this one goes to Carpenter who had a great game finishing with 13 catches for 149yds and 2 TDs. Hellfighter also gets an honourable mention for his 3TD game as well as 328yds passing against a normally good defence.
St Michael can most certainly take a lot of positives from this campaign. They improved on their 3-13 record from last season and if a couple of games went slightly different then they could be better off than their 4-12 record. What we here at the Bulletin are trying to say is that 4-12 isn’t as bad as you may first think. But 557 total rushing yards and 51 turnovers are bad and will certainly need to be addressed before next year. But know this, the Blicas WILL return next year STRONGER, FASTER and better prepared than ever before so watch out Zeta! The only place to catch up on all the Blica action is of course right here in the Blica Bulletin.
