The Blica Bulletin – Issue 15 – Blicas “München-ed” by Fearless Lions
Written By Herouk87
St Michael – This matchup was always going to be hard for St Michael to stomach. After being dead in the murky playoff waters following last weeks loss to Lyon, the Blicas found themselves in the firing line this week as they played the 10-4 Fearless Lions. München shut out St Michael last year in a 30-0 victory and were hoping for a repeat performance this time round.
The game started with München running the ball left, right and centre. The pairing of Ryan Kutcher and Darren Mc Fadden were used to great effect as the Lions went 7-0 up with only 6 minutes gone. Kutcher barged in from 5 yards to give the Germen squad the lead. The opening quarter went from bad to worse for the Blicas when; following an Andy Capp FG from 42 yards; Eric MartinsQB threw his first of 4 interceptions on the day, this one to Marden DB. The second quarter continued in a similar vein when MartinsQB was picked off by Pia Kjærsgaard. It must be said that not all of the INT can be placed on MartinsQB shoulders but nether the less his league leading 25 INTs are enough to worry the Blica coaches.
When Kjærsgaard got his second interception of the game midway through the second quarter there were whispers in the stands that a change needed to occur. These were only magnified when Kutcher ran in from 7 yards, his 13th score of the year. The heckling seemed to galvanize the Blica offense as they finally stirred towards the end of the first half. Led by the rejuvenated MartinsQB, the marched downfield on a 15 play drive which culminated in MartinsQB hitting T E for the score. This gave the fans something to cheer about as the Blicas went in at the half trailing 17-7.
The Blica’s slim hopes of causing an upset took another huge boost at the beginning of the second half when Eric Zoglman knocked the ball out of Kutcher’s hands. Even though München recovered the fumbled it showed that they were not invincible. Invincible they were not, but at times today München seemed to be unstoppable. Marden DB getting his second INT of the game on a pass that slipped through the hands of T E. Capp added his second FG which was quickly followed by the third to stretch the “Fearless ones” lead to a comfortable 23-7 at the end of 3.
The game was effectively ended on the first play of the fourth quarter when Dont Hate Me fumbled a ball which was recovered by München CB Darryl Weller. Mc Fadden crossed late on to bring an end to this forgettable game. München running out easy winners, 30-7.
The game balls could go to any number of Lion players but eventually ended up on the mantle of the RB tandem of Mc Fadden and Kutcher who terrorized the Blica defence all afternoon. Honourable mentions go to MardenDB as well as Kjærsgaard for their two INT performances. Congratulations also go to Jeppe Dam who had a 100% completion rate on the day for München.
For St Michael they can take consolation in that improved on last year’s result but still find themselves a long way away from being able to match the better teams in Zeta. Perhaps some off season moves on the offensive side of the ball will be the key to a competitive side next year as 7 turnovers in one game won’t get you very far in this day and age.
St Michael will finish their season against the Yorkshire Knights. The Blica Heads are sure to give the team a good send off at Mile High Blica as they aim to dint the hopes of the Playoff bound men from Alpha.
