Forum > Goal Line Blitz > Game theory and All Pass Block OL, how much harder is it to run?

Anyone have general statements on plateau level pass blocking OL archetypes when it comes to the Run game? Reason I ask, next season I'm wanting to try a high pass ratio team with Combo HBs for the short passes and run game as needed. Something like the San Padre Mayans but maybe a bit more running.

Smartest way would be screens instead? Some teams just punish the hell out of screen teams yeah? Pitches and sweeps?

It's 4th and 1.5 in the 4th and down by 3 on the 50yd line... inside run with this Pass Block OL? Pitch?

Does it make sense to Scrambler QB with this OL if all receivers are "roll first" builds and benefit from the mobility of the Scrambler?

Just want to figure out a way to do it all differently

I have in the past twice used pass blocking o line. First time I found we were dismal at short yardage situations. Second go I used run blocking o line as stops, enough for an entire line and used the GL formation and it’s separate depth chart when in short yardage situations.

Never considered the GL and it's own depth as a strategy. Success that second go around?

Trying to imagine the roster. Just need 2 maybe 3 Run Blockers and then pick a side to run to each game for the short yard situations?

1 RG and 1 RT then run the C gap where they are? Then switch sides for random games I would imagine.

Very successful. I had the full line that were stops and short yard running. I don’t recall the success rate, but it was below 50% first go and what I’d consider normal, 90 % or so second go.

STOPs so that you're getting dual purpose on the dots. Smart.

In your mind would it be viable, an alternative to just have 2 extra Run Block OL guys for the short yards, let's say G and Tackle, then just run between those two, from GL formation?

I ask because Strength is a secondary if I remember for OL STOP dots. Or maybe there's too much that would go wrong at C, for example, if the rest of the line is Pass Block archetypes

Full line of STOPS though sounds like a bunch of fun. Got me thinking!

it sure seems hard to pass with run blockers https://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/stats.pl?season=114&league_id=284&conference_id=0&stat=passing&sort=interceptions_thrown&playoffs=0&stat_type=raw

so since run blockers seem to be what people are using now, does that mean the gains from line General aren't worth it? Or is there a way for a run blocker to get the line general SA through AEQ or something?

Line General only works for Centers, on the offensive line, and all archetypes of Centers have Line General available in the Passing SA tree. You can add points via AEQ if desired, just like any other SA.

yeah I know it's for centers only but it helps the entire line if you have it, that was why I was curious if people just don't think it's worth it or are people adding it through AEQ or something.

If you are an Run block C, then adding it through the tree seems like a slight waste but I wasn't sure if you can even get that in AEQ or not.

3×hold block & 1xLine General (plus CE). Don't know what you are saying!

so you can add it through AEQ, cool. Thanks

I used the run blocking archetype.
