How does the play distance choice impact a created pass play and how a QB goes through their progressions? Does the receiver need to be X number of yards past the LOS (however many yards you chose), X number of yards from where they started the play? How much does the play distance impact the QB progressions? Is it tied at all to the distance in which the receiver makes their break in their given route or just distance traveled?

"Pass distance" does the following:
1. Keep in mind on Bort's plays, these are grouped into short, medium, and long folders. These groupings are the pass distance bort said (I know OPC has 5 settings and Bort has 3 folders, so the yardage bort set is unknown, but I always assumed short-medium-long.
2. If you have a non-breaking route (streak, slant, drag, skinny post, post), the "play distance" will determine FOR YOUR FIRST READ ONLY, when the QB first begins targeting that route. So if progression 1 is a slant, play distance of 5 yards means the QB is going to throw it (or switch to progression 2) much sooner than a play distance of 15 yards. Keep in mind, QB's generally won't pass it (barring extreme pressure) and generally won't go to their 2nd read, until the condition is met. QB basically waits for progression 1 to get to it's "hot point", before considering whether to throw or go to progression 2, most of the time. This means progression 1 being a deep break, or play distance set to deep, can result in QB holding the ball and getting pressured more often.
Keep in mind for things like hooks, in/out routes, etc., the hot point is pre-designed to be after the player makes the cut, so your "play distance" isn't going to change that cadence.
3. Interaction with "play distance vs open man" QB tactic slider. Basically, for all progressions your QB considers whether the player has met the play's "Minimum play distance", and if not, will view the player as "less open" and thus less likely to target. Given Bort's plays have somewhat random/nonsensical route distance, I generally recommend setting QB's to -100 Open Man, which should ignore this portion for the most part.

Wisevian hypothetically say you want to create a deep play. What would you set the target distance at?
The above explanation was helpful.

This is helpful. Thank you! Just to make sure I’m fully following, does the play distance only impact the QB’s initial progression or all five?

I didn't really do enough with the OPC, but maybe 20 yards if it's a streak on progression 1. For something with a direction change, the direction change distance will have a bigger effect.
Gonna have to trial and error a bit tbh.

Distance impacts read 1 sometimes (when does QB throw vs go to 2nd read), depending on read 1's route.
Distance impacts read 1-5 depending on QB open man settings (players shorter than the distance will look "less open" to a qb set to +100 route distance for example.)
