Hello! I used to play around 10 years ago so I'm aware you build after day 40/41 to optimise your build.

I came back mid way through this season but I didn't wanna wait to watch my dots run around so I got excited and made a bunch of dots.

Am I totally screwed? Should I retire all of them and start from scratch today?

I'm a super engaged player but I don't wanna pump hundreds of bucks into players who nobody will want to sign. Thanks!

Retire them all and start anew today. Before you build any, I gave you an invite to my team Forum. Look at the build outline for O and D which includes ht, wt, etc
I suggest you ask questions before you even create. Also, you may want to take another season of just creating dots and then retiring them at seasons end as you will get back all your flex...just don't but Custom Equipment (CE)

Out of curiosity - why are players screwed if they aren't made on day 40?

Also, when do I join a team? This season? Or wait until next season?

Should I boost before this season ends to start next season at lvl 5 or wait until the end of next season?

You'll be able to join a team for the next ~8 days with a contract that will last thru next season!

Timing of boosting is a widely argued topic. Some boost to level 5 off the bat, others wait til the end to stack those 5 boosts with their last 5 to allow for more efficient training all along the player's first four seasons.
