NEW OWNER GUIDE:

This is not a build guide...more of a basic run through of what you should do before building. I will mention some build basics here and there this is more about team build/roster planning.

Team Build/Scheme/Direction

You want to figure out a team identity and direction before you do anything else, building random players and throwing them together will just cause headaches. Decide what type of offense and defense you want to run and plan your builds around your scheme.

The number of HB/FB/WR/TE's you have and which are S* will determine what formations you can and will want to run so plan ahead. You also need to plan your builds around the type of offense you want to run. Don't build blocking TE's and throw the ball to them 20 times a game. Same goes for defense, build to suit your scheme/plan not the other way around.

This isn't the NFL, you don't need to “find” players to fit your scheme. You get to make them.

Setup Tactics/Playbook...Start here, find someone that can help you setup a basic tactics/PB setup that works and then decide what you want to do on offense/defense and what kind of players you want to make it work. This will give you a direction when building your roster and make the team easier to manage overall.

ROSTER:

Rosters have a minimum of 36 players and 150 million to spend. Make sure and use most of it. You don't really need more than the 36 so it's best to stick around there. You will need the extra $$$ for S* and Traits.

Plan out your entire roster/builds either using Scout or a spreadsheet so that you maximize your roster and fill every necessary position. Figure out how many S* you can fit and layout salary for everyone. This will save you a ton of time playing the guessing game and having to remake players over and over.

Have everything ready a few days before the offseason so you can take your time making the team. You don't want to be up until 4AM trying to get you players done and game plans in.


OFFENSE:

Run,Pass or Balanced? This will greatly determine your build plans and schemes. Run or Balanced is a better option for newer players, passing is more difficult and picky to build for.

Formations/Players – The formations you use will determine what players and S* you want and also how you attack other teams. For instance if you want to run/pass out of 2 TE sets exclusively then maybe you add a 2nd S* TE to the mix.


If Run focused:

Power/Elusive or Combo style back(s)? Do you want to break tackles, make people miss or a combo of both? You can also split these duties up between 2-3 HB/FB combo's

Tech or Power focused Oline? Do you want to maintain blocks better and be consistent or do you want to generate pancakes and get to the 2nd level? (Pure run should use power Oline)

You will want 2 FB's if you are (and should) plan on running from Diamond formation

You will need at least 2 ball carriers, You can use any combination of HB's/FB's you want to achieve this.

Having multiple runners means you probably won't need a dedicated kick returner


If Pass focused:

Pocket or mobile QB? Most likely with a pass focused Oline you will just want a pocket QB with a great arm.

Tech or power focused Oline? Pancakes help but not quite as much as in a pure run offense.

TE – S* TE is highly recommended, this has consistently been the best pass catching position in the game and is very important for attacking the middle of the field. For backup it will depend on what formations you plan on and how many plays you plan on using dual TE's.

WR – One S* at least is usually a good idea here too and more if you can find cap room.

If Balanced:

This is probably the easiest and best way to go as the builds will be less specific and you hopefully won't have defenses able to key on one specific thing to stop you.

HB – Whatever style you prefer and you can get away with only having one as long as you have 100 Cond and a dedicated Kick/Punt returner to help take pressure off.

Again 2 FB's are a good idea if you want to run from Diamond. You can sub in a TE at the WFB spot as an alternative though.

TE – S* is still recommended, backups you have flexibility on though.

WR – Again more flexibility here since you will run run the ball enough to keep defenses from focusing. S* are nice to have if you can afford it.


DEFENSE:

Run/Balanced is the way to right now and probably will be unless the game drastically changes. You need to build to stop the run no matter
what since most teams are either balanced or run oriented and almost all have at least one S* HB

What formations do you want to use? This will determine what S* you want and how you want to stop other teams. I.E. don't Build 3 S* LB's and run Nickel half the time.

Man or Zone...Hybrid is also an option but will be more difficult to start with. Man is generally better at stopping inside runs and there is less game planning to do. Zone is more susceptible to inside runs and deep outside passing but is better at shutting Down short/intermediate passing and takes a little more game planning also.


ZONE Defense...

Zone builds are a bit less specific and if you can get consistent pressure on the QB it does an excellent job creating Int's. It is worse naturally against the run because if you don't run tag on most plays the LB's move away from the LOS for a few ticks after the snap and that allows the HB's to get free after they break the LOS.

2 S* FS & 2 S* LB's are highly recommended. You will have a harder time with WR's deep on the outside without S* FS and Zone is very LB oriented so play to the strength of the defense.

DL – You WILL need to get pressure on the QB if you expect to get Int's, It doesn't take a huge investment but you want a minimum of 3 DL players that can pressure the QB.

LB – 2 S* and maybe more depending on what you want to do. They are the centerpieces of Zone and will be asked to do a lot.

CB – S* if you can, if not there is more flexibility than Man builds so you can choose to focus them on whatever you need

FS/SS – SS is not good right now...you get a lesser player for the same points investment. Use 2 S* FS and make sure they can tackle. Them and the LB's will make 75% of your tackles so it's important.


MAN Defense...

A lot of Man builds everyone stays pretty close to the meta and just tweaks. It's better against the run because LB's will not move backward automatically at the start of the snap. WR's are covered quicker off the LOS than in Zone where someone is waiting. Man backend players need more Cov Tech/Def/Quick/Cond than Zone does and have less wiggle room.

DL – Same as Zone...Whatever style you prefer to get the job done.

LB – Multiple S* isn't as much of a requirement here as long as you have one good MLB that's usually enough. Backups can be combo types or specialists if you have room and prefer it.

CB - S* recommended here also, You are facing super fast WR's that have good hands and you need high ball skills and good physicals to compete.

FS/SS – Also same as Zone but not as S* dependent either...Still use them if possible.


DON'T...Look at one play or game and try to figure out what went wrong. You will see all sorts of buggy strange things happen in this game and games can really spiral out of control even if the teams are evenly matched. This is where scrims can really help because you can focus in on specific things better. Rookie is especially bad until chemistry gets very close to 100 and builds start to clean up.

Remember it's a game...Take time and learn to play it.

Also a couple other tidbits...

NO SKILLS besides physicals can increase rolls over 100
Meaning that if you have 100 Power Running and roll a 90 that a +15 bonus from Power Through would still cap the roll at 100.

One “active” and multiple “passive” SA's can be used at the same time Double check your SA's and make sure you don't have 2 SA's of the same type that activate on the same play types or one will cancel out the other out (Spin Cycle/TV does this)

Passives can stack and Actives can stack as long as they aren't of the same type (ie...movement/blitz/carrying etc...) even though the animation may only show one.

OOP – Out Of Position players receive a 10% penalty and no SA's fire. So if you put a TE at a WR spot or a CB at safety they will suffer this penalty.

RPP - Repeat Play Penalty - If you run the same plays or play types over and over after a specified amount that we aren't sure of you will be penalized and drop balls or miss tackles etc... Make sure your using at least 7-10 plays to avoid this.

QB's will throw to covered targets...Far too often sometimes.

If you need to re-make a Franchise player...Cut the current player, retire that player then re-make and he should re-sign with 50 chemistry. This may get changed later on but it works this way for now and is far better than dropping to zero.

Off-Tackle runs count as Outside runs but Surge etc... will still trigger as if it's an Inside run.

The game fills WR/TE slots in reverse order so you can use this to maneuver your S* around in your lineup if needed.
Order is: WFB/GLTE/BTE/TE/FB/HB/QB/WR5-1
For Defense: CB5-1/DT3-1/DE2-1/LB4-1

Lead blocking only active if that player is pulling on a play.
Pulling = If the player is not straight ahead blocking. WR's/Centers ALWAYS block straight ahead hence no LBA

I made a spreadsheet to find out my player builds overall and set up for franchise before I got glbscout. If anyone wants to use my sheet you are more than welcome. Just put the stats for each build on the page for the person being built (I used pickup player builds to test but glb scout is way better). On the "Team Page" put players Name, Weight, Height & Cost. It will give you an overall build avg and how much of the build is +75 skill. It may or may not be helpful for anyone else but it made it a whole lot easier for me to build my franchise.

I would make a copy of it for yourself if you do use it so no-one comes back and overrides your info.
