We’re one of the worst run defenses (rightfully so) in rookie right now and it’s killing me. We’re literally built to defend the run, but can’t run defend.

We can sack the QB, intercept the ball, force fumbles (& everything else under the sun besides play disciplined consistently) with primary run investment, but not defend the run?

I’m not even mad we suck (we’re up to like 200+ yards a game & we’re not even a quarter through the season 🙂 since it’s rookie and I can pretend it’s rookie growing pains, but to be third to worst out of all these rookie teams feels like a stretch to me.

Even the rush first teams are having a better run defending season..? 🥲

Are you using pass tags on defense? or pass/run or run tags? also what do you have in your defensive tactic

Gap discipline. From watching a bit of the Oregon game I'd say tone down the blitzing and you won't get burned so bad on the ground.

Probably why he is getting sacks

yeah If you're blitzing a lot it's going to get eaten up by some of these running games

You also already played CI 2.0 which is pure run and going to get 200+ yards on anyone in rookie

All pass/run tags this season. Results have been meh, but riding out the full season first before I switch it up.

We’re actually a bit more balanced defensively, sometimes the tactics roll against our favor though. In that same Oregon game we passed the majority of the first half, and ran heavier in the second (while already down at that) to make the numbers look even.

Even on the four man rush 😎 but yeah, that 5th/6th man rush tends to help.

5/6 man rush likely kills your run defense

again, we don’t blitz as much as the assumption is.

also, the issue isn’t our blitzing. We actually play pretty decent when we blitz, but then we’d be beat by screens & the pass frequently. Our league is too deep to take that risk unfortunately.

plus, even the rush first teams are clearly better run defenders at this stage so is blitzing really all that counterproductive against the run 🤔

You have to use run tags on a pure run team
