What is his balance? You can at least silver sure-footed.

Balance and some footwork are the keys to the random tripped up. Not sure what your build has, but 50 each should normally be ok, but more would obviously help if you can afford it.

Then I'd say he got fucked by the RNG and a rain penalty.

It's not gonna be common with a back that has that much balance anyhow, but if you want it to never happen - balance above quick seems to do the trick.

Footwork seems to help balance as much as it drains it, so no real worries about ratios on that front - but I've noticed guys who have more quick than balance will from time to time have that happen. Though, 65/70 is close enough this probably isn't gonna ever happen outside a rain game and not be that common.
