I know CDog said there are a number of checks to prevent this from happening and they don't know why it continues to occur, however, let's walk through it logically. A catch is made first. Balance, footwork, and quickness checks happen after running 5 yards and dodging a defender. Then a successful check is made for B4I to fire and yet the ball is knocked loose so it invalidates everything going backward all the way to, and including, the catch?!?
How do all those passed checks happen, including B4I, on a play that "officially" did not have a reception?
If anything, the error is with the outcome of a positive "ball knocked loose" check. As in:
After a catch IF "ball knocked loose" = YES THEN see if any checks were made on footwork/balance/quickness/sprinting (any attribute to do with carrying the ball)
IF YES THEN "ball knocked loose" = fumble
IF NO THEN "ball knocked loose = incomplete pass
Wouldn't that make sense?
