I know some dots at CB these days are built for power so they're not liabilities against the run. But with as expensive as CB skills are, I'm having some trouble figuring out where the heck any points are supposed to come out of to get power tackling up above 35ish.

I'm stuck thinking it must be in the physical skills I'm overinvested. After taking a look at some of the metas, based on skill drill numbers, is the 60-65ish Quickness really enough--and are people just making up for Sprinting with Footwork?

You are probably over investing in physicals. We had some success with CBs having high Tackling Power during our last run with HOLY GUACAMOLE!, albeit forcing turnovers was a key component to our overall Defense.

It depends on what kind of defense you want to build. I have always built zone defenses, so sprinting isn't that important. I put a high emphasis on footwork/quickness, break run block and power tackle, for knock loose and tackle.

If I ran a man defense, I would go higher sprinting.

It’s one of the reasons I run a zone.. I don’t have to invest in sprinting across the board....just in my safeties and one run stopping LB.

CB physicals are pretty important, i don’t know about some of these takes. Personally Hold Ground is better than BRB to me, and power tackling isn’t really that important on them unless you

A) Use mostly DBs
B) Need them on ST

Realistically if you’re CBS are constantly going up against Power rushers then thats odd. Sure the occasional knocked loose pass is nice, but you could also spend the points towards getting the turnover.

Plus with cover expert the higher your CBs physicals are the better they’ll be overall. If you want a run CB then you can just silver brick wall and just have two pass Gold SAs. It would probably work out better for you in the long run anyways.

Sure, if you are playing man to man defense. But zone is a whole other ball game. CBs only cover a small area in zone, and they need to defend that area from the run and pass...and don't need to sprint long distances.

Hold Ground is a good skill, but you need BRB high to win the initial blocking interaction and then you can revpan with Hold Ground. I go pretty high on BRB and put some in Hold Ground. Definitely at least silver Shed Block.

Ahh I should've specified, I meant man. I would assume there's much more flexibility in zone since you don't need C-tech and the most important physical is vertical (saving those quickness and sprinting costs definitely has to help).

You can't build a CB to stop a Power HB but you also don't need to.

You just need the CB to get heads up on the WR and cause the HB to cut inside where the LB/SS/FS makes the tackle.

Now stopping Power WRs may become a thing. We'll see.
