Deadpool's Mercs for Money (8-6-0), overall: 16-12-1 Wild Card team coming out of Gamma Division.
Gridiron Goolies (11-3-0), overall: 24-5-0 Winners of Beta Division.
How they got here-
Ranked 36th globally and 3rd in tier, the Gridiron Goolies started the season strong winning 13 straight games including ladder matches. They replaced a team no longer to be mentioned in Beta division lore at the last second and were not expected to be more than second place in the division behind the historic Whoville Whos. They went 8-0 before succumbing to a bad rash of defeats that saw them drop three straight! during this time they lost to three eventual playoff teams in the Honolulu Heartbreakers, Daltonville Donnybrooks, and Deadpool's Mercs for Money. At 8-3 they were found vulnerable going into the final round of divisional games. But, they were able to go into the playoffs as the Beta Division winner riding a three game win streak to face Honolulu once again. In that Semi-finals match Gridiron traveled to Honolulu and extracted revenge, winning 20-14 and winning the right to host the 'ship.
Deadpool's Mercs for Money rode a totally different road to get into the final game. They lost their first four overall games and were 1-3-0 in league a third of the way through the season. They went on to lose only two more games while making surprising victories against both Whoville and Gridiron to set up the final run. With the three divisional games to play it was a neck and neck race with Kool-Aid Jammers for the wild-card. Honolulu had already locked up the divisional crown and things looked bleak if not for the Mercs' early season victory over the Jammers. As things played out Deadpool's Mercs defeated both Deadman Awakening and the Jammers before having to face the Heartbreakers and were able to back into the playoffs despite losing the final regular season game.

On a bitterly cold but calm day, clouds partly obscuring the sky, the two final teams met to bring home the very first Heart League trophy. Gridiron was hosting this fractious fight for final supremacy and won the toss. They chose to defer to the second half and Deadpool's Agerm73 jumped at the chance to start the game with the pigskin.
The Goolies' kicker, Chucky ' kicked off 57 yards to DMFM's KR Richard Esquivel for a 25 yard return. He was tackled by OU4, The Terminator, to start the inaugural season's Plus Ultra Bowl!
Deadpool's Mercs were at their own 39 and battled the tough Gridiron defense until an incomplete pass on a 3rd and 5 killed it on the Goolies'41. Punter Ray 'Gun' Guy punted 32 yards to PR The Wolfman for a fair catch on his own 9 to pin the Goolies deep.
After a three and out by an energized Merc defense, the Mercs got the ball exactly where they had left it on their last drive, on the Goolies'41. Deadpool's Mercs were able to take it on a 9 play drive where QB Vanessa Carlysle handed off to HB Richard Esquivel for a 1 yard gain and a touchdown!
After the Deadpool defense forced another punt by Gridiron they were on their third drive of the first quarter when fate struck! On 3rd & 4 with 1:19 left in the first, QB Vanessa Carlysle threw a pass from their OWN 31 to WR2 Dr. Hands, but the ball was intercepted by CB2 Kade Adair! The Goolies had great field position and momentum had clearly shifted their way. Could they capitalize on it? You bet they did. In just three plays they set up a 1st and 10 juuust outside the ten. On the last play of the first quarter from the 10 yard line Gridiron QB Freddy Krueger threw a pass to BTE Mr. Hyde, who made the catch for a 10 yard gain and a touchdown!
End of First Gridiron Goolies 7, Deadpool's Mercs for Money 7.
In the second things started off just like the first. Deadpool's Mercs drive and stall but pin'em deep. Goolies go three and out and give up great field position to the Mercs. Then here is where strangely enough despite seeming to have the upper hand, the Mercs beginning to falter they can't push the drive home and settle for Mercs' kicker, Fail, attempting a 19 yard field goal from the Goolies' 2 yard line which is good. Kicker Fail proceeds to muff the kickoff as it goes a mere 54 yards allowing for a 23 yard return and the Goolies get great field position on their own 40 to start their next drive. Gridiron then marches on a 6 play 60 yard drive that culminates in QB Freddy Krueger handed off to HB The Wolfman for a 1 yard gain and a touchdown! A Chucky ' extra point later and Gridiron takes the lead! The rest of the second quarter is short and relatively uneventful except for the final play. Goolies got the ball but ran out of time before they could really do anything with it so... Gridiron had Chucky ' attempt a 69 yard field goal, but it was WAY too short to end the half!

The third quarter began with Gridiron trying to take advantage of a four point lead and chipping away at the DMFM morale. The majority of the half was a back and forth that saw the Goolies' plan come to fruition as their offense had long grueling drives... unfortunately for both teams no one could score or even attempt to.
End of Third Quarter saw the score still: Gridiron Goolies 14, Deadpool's Mercs for Money 10.
The final period is where things get desperate for Deadpool's Mercs. They start the quarter with the ball but only do a three and out with it. In fact, their first two drives were both three and outs as the Gridiron Goolies' defense showed why they were ranked 3rd in both rush defense and points allowed along with 4th overall. On the Mercs'third drive the Goolies' defense hit paydirt. Mid-way through the fourth Deadpool's Mercs had the ball on their own 24 with a 3rd & 3. QB Vanessa Carlysle dropped back on a TE Post and threw a pass to WR2 I AM Speed. The Goolies had countered with a perfectly called nickel D, Cover1 TE Smother and the ball was intercepted by CB2 Wicked Witch! It was thrown just a little behind the receiver and Wicked Witch was closing in man coverage. Now with another opportune turnover the Goolies set up shop on the DMFM 40. They struggled to drive it to the DMFM 23 on 4 plays but the next play was gold. QB Freddy Krueger threw a pass to WR1 BeetleJuice ', who made the catch for a 19 yard gain and a first down! He was tackled by CB1 Darth Maul, but the damage was done. The Deadpool's Mercs' goal-line defense then rose to the occasion and denied the Goolies on three plays to break the plane. On fourth down the Gridiron coaching staff chose to take the easy 3 rather than chance a potential momentum changing stuff and turn over on downs. This proved to be the right choice as it forced the Mercs to have to get a touchdown just to tie at 17 and the way the Goolies' defense was playing things were in their favor. Deadpool's first drive after the FG took less than a minute off the three minutes lefts but only went 14 yards before they decided to punt from their own 48. The Goolies in turn could only generate another three and out but did take another minute off the clock and one of DMFM's timeouts with it. Now with two timeouts and only a minute to play DMFM started their final drive. They had great field position starting already from the Gridiron 44 and in two plays and both timeouts moved it to the Goolies' 29!It was second down and 2 QB Vanessa Carlysle threw a pass to HB Milkshake Special in the flats, who dropped the ball! This hurt but it wasn't a kill shot as there were still two more potential downs and the incomplete stopped the clock. in fact it might have been a good thing as MLB Frankenstein Monster was there to keep any gain a small one. Third down and two, will DMFM decide to test Gridiron's vaunted run D and get a first down first before rushing to spike the ball?... No! QB Vanessa Carlysle drops back to throw a pass to WR2 Dr. Hands, who made the catch, but the ball was knocked loose by CB2 Kade Adair! Now it's 4th down! DMFM finally desides it run time. But, the Gridiron Goolies aren't the 3rd rank run defense for nuthin! Both DE Pennywise the Clown and DT Godzilla ' take control of there blockers penetrating into the line. Godzilla pushes off the block of Guard Tiny Hendricks and Pennywise the Clown helped him finish off the tackle well short of the 19 yard line! It's Turnover on downs, game over, no first for you, Goolies kneel down once and PARTY TIME!
