If Global rankings are going to have such overlap between Tiers then let's reflect that more in the Ladder match-ups.

I know some Journey teams have beaten some Pro teams so, you can have quality inter-Tier play.

But, if you're going to rank lower Tier teams higher than upper Tier teams make sure they actually earn it through head-to-head match-ups.

Eh... BSB has beaten a few pro and even some vet squads. Not that I want to be rank 20 and within range of the top vet teams or anything (played KC Crowns in our last ladder game), but BSB has actually played up tiers well this season outside of two games.

The higher ranked opponent you beat, the more ladder points you get. Just how it is. Sucks playing up two tiers, but it is just part of JMan right now with so few teams.

I think my biggest problem is seeing three Rookie and three Sophomore teams ranked ahead of our Journey team. Are they better than us? Maybe. But, they better play us to prove it before they get ranked ahead of us.

We've played 10 of our 13 ladder games against Pro tier teams and lost all but one. That's fine. But then, don't rank these lower tier teams ahead of us because of it.

In ladder games, have the better teams in lower tiers play worse teams in higher tiers. If they win, then move them ahead of that higher tier team in the Global ranking. But, don't move them ahead of teams they have no business being ahead of.

It all will clear itself up once they are playing up a tier next season. Don't sweat it too much. The ladder sorts itself out as it allows the best of a tier to play up and protects weaker teams from playing better teams a tier up. It allows coaches and teams to rise to their level of incompetence before having the sky as the limit in Vet tier.

Yeah. I guess, in my mind, a lower tier team should never be ranked higher than a higher tier team unless the lower team has actually beaten higher tier teams.

So, something is wrong with the current points system.

You can't really do this unless they all play each other. If team A from Pro beats team B from Pro. And Team C From journey beats team A from Pro. From your logic, team B should be ranked higher than team C.

No, they should be ranked B, C, A.

Even though A-Pro beat B-Pro, by losing to lower tier C-JMan, A-Pro should be ranked lowest until they beat a higher ranked team again.

It's bigger to lose to a lower tier team than it is to beat an equal tier team.

Then, the next ladder game could be B-Pro vs. C-JMan to see if C is better than B.

If C beats B then the ranking would be C, A, B (as long as A beat another Pro team)

Edit: For what it's worth, I fully agree with you and that's why we're playing you. At the same time, a single head to head matchup doesn't necessarily indicate which team is "better" - it's the strength of the schedule and the outcomes of the games taken holistically, as well as head to head matchups across multiple meetings. Unless we played all the same opponents as you and performed equally well, I don't ever think there's an argument for a rookie or even sophomore team being ranked higher than yours, even if they win a game against you. 100% of the teams you played are different from the teams we played, so why are we even being compared on the same measurement?

Edit 2:Good game!

Whew, that actually worked out well because we obviously needed to change some plays before the playoffs.

But, it also goes to show that ladder games should use more of the global ranking for matchups instead of just within tiers. So, you might not play all the teams in JMan but you could play the lower ranked teams or most of the teams in Soph.

Start the season playing 5 games against your own tier. Then the top teams play higher tiers and bottom play lower tiers. If you keep winning you move up the global ranking, if you lose you move down. Let teams find their own high water mark.

That way you have fewer blowouts and more fun, competitive games.
