Facts are facts, but let's not forget context when bringing them up. I just want fair play, especially since I've invested months and months trying to make zone work within the confines of how its operated for years.

I normally agree with you Myrik, but not on this. GE's whole zone approach was one of the best run defenses ever in GLB2. When I ran all-run or heavy run teams(both starring HBs & QBs), zones gave me the most problems by far. The only caveat is your build scheme needs to be on point. Building for a zone isn't the same as man.

I'm fully aware that zone builds and man builds are different man, GE gave me pages of notes on what he learned before he quit. I then ran zone with LHM before I even started with KYM. You can ask any of the coaches who had to play against my teams, most just ran the ball up the middle because they all admitted it was weak vs the run even here in the forums. it literally took almost until Pro before I could do anything against it.

I don't recollect GE being that strong vs the run, at least I don't recall having any trouble against him... his big threat was getting TO's, be it FF or Picks.

I ran on GE pretty well. Like Myrik said it was the TOs with him. I had close to 500 total yards against him one game and he had like negative 70 and he was still in the game at the end. He kept turning me over deep on my end, then went backwards for three plays, and then kicked a FG. I had a bunch of long drives that ended with TOs.

When we did rankings from GLb Scout most seasons, GE's defense was far better than any other against the run. He did focus on TOs, but also was good are stopping outside runs and handling powerbacks. His problem was despite the great defense....he obsessed with running goalline plays on offense.

He might have had a few good games vs the run, but for the most part he gave up shit tons of yards rushing and passing, Osiris' story sounds about typical of his teams. But I digress, you're right on one part for sure, his offense was awful.

I should also add that to be more specific, Zone is very weak vs inside rushing. Outside rushing might be respectable. If we can't get some sort of buff, then there needs to be some plays with ILB/SS Spy to keep them home so there is at least a chance in-between the tackles. Not every team can muster a bunch of S*DL to make up for zone's weakness.

My playbook against him was almost entirely passes to the sideline and runs off tackle. His team was very good at up the gut and outside run defense, but off tackle seemed to be the way to run against him successfully. I even changed 'run v. short' to full off-tackle plays so that I could handle his team and control the rate they were used.

Though, admittedly, I have a mixed record against his teams. Off tackle doesn't seem to be as effective as it once was anyhow - but then again we had a huge overhaul in how players react to the run since then and improvements to pursuit in general along with other tweaks that have probably set us back some.

It could be the changes has affected Zone's ability to stop inside rushing if that's the case. When I can get some free time maybe I'll dig up some of the old games I had vs GE and I'll also look at creating a play or 2 with ILB/SS spy.

One of the improvements was to help LBs to stop crashing down as soon and getting caught behind blocks when trying to chase to the outside. The improvements were done to curtail outside running, so it's very likely they made inside running more powerful than it used to be.
