This happens over and over, especially at FS and SS. Closing Speed fires (and ends), the player has the ballcarrier lined up for a crushing high-speed tackle, and...he runs right past him. What Skill/s will remedy this, do you think? Or could it be related to Pursuit Style?

I'd wager so, balance and quickness are super important for slowing down and adjusting on a tackle. Footwork helps in the approach too.

I’ve seen the same thing with Cover Expert. Why I don’t like either one.

this is a similar play with closing speed triggering, he went straight for runner

Balance, quickness, pursuit all high w/ quick at 70 and footwork at 40. Based on that, your guy is missing some stats somewhere

Well, he is only a Sophomore. Currently 60 Pursuit, 50 Balance, 40 Footwork, 41 Quickness. I'll work on Quickness and hope for improvement. Thanks, guys!

pretty much was just a good move by the HB at the time when your guy didn't have the quickness and balance to recover. It becomes a lot harder to make guys overrun like that in the higher leagues. :/

1. Could be pursuit style
2. There isnt really an angle for the safety on that play. Closing speed isn’t magically supposed to get you tackles. It’s supposed to put you in a position closer to the ball carrier/putting your dot back into the play.

If the pursuit style was aggressive he probably would’ve went straight through (although aggressive isn’t always aggressive depending on the blocking).

There are two pull blockers, when the safety approaches you can see him start to turn and angle himself away, but he just couldn’t do it in time. Realistically speaking, it looks like a speed issue here. A bit more speed and as soon as the first pull blocker is engaged he could’ve slipped by the second one.

P.S- Unless you run safeties heavy in zone, footwork is one of the least important physical skills for them. Zone awareness, pursuit, and sprinting would be the most important stats in regards to this play.
-ZA so the safety breaks out of coverage quicker to attack the ballcarrier
-Pursuit to well, pursue
-Sprinting (and probably aggressive style here) to avoid those last minute block engagements.

Safeties are essentially just hybrid MLBs

Am I missing something? Closing Speed fired and ended like, so far before when he overshot the play.

But in general, yes, your ability to accelerate and decelerate is based on your Quickness. Closing Speed increases your velocity but doesn't increase your ability to decelerate, so it will make it more likely to over shoot.
