I've noticed a gigantic problem when it comes to blitzes in that players don't behave as one's intuition would expect. For example, say an outside backer is blitzing and an outside run is called in his direction. Conventional wisdom would have it that the outside backer would rush whatever gap he's assigned to initially. What I'm seeing, likely from player set pursuit AI, is that on an outside run, the LB will track the QB first on his first motion and will jump inside like the QB is running with the ball, giving up the outside for free when the ball is tossed in his direction.
I think that something needs to be done with the pursuit AI, or the LB needs some form of AI to control his gap before he jumps aggressively toward the middle. Maybe at least have the pursuit automatically set to aggressive when someone is on a blitz so that, even though they'll still give up the outside, at least they will be moving toward the line rather than, in the case of balanced or conservative pursuit, they run parallel and they don't even get to occupy a blocker.
