yeah that was my point, i felt like teams were just play tagging everything as "pass" defense and still completely manhandling the run so you were forced to throw 60x into pass play tag defensive plays.

the pass play tag buff made plays like blitzes with SS's in single cov shut down TEs 1on1. so to be able to just spam pass play tags and have that kind of success vs passing plays plus the ability to also shut down run plays, it was just far too strong and skewed the game too heavily towards defense and turnovers.

whatever adjustment they did to "modify" the play tag bonus, i now feel like play tagging defensive plays incorrectly (ex: pass play tag defensive play vs a run play) now has much less chance success, which is why were seeing runs have a bit more success so far this season. still very early so we will see how it goes

I'll keep saying it, i think the problem isn't balance, is the lack of points that we have for players in GLB, a professional football player probably have the minimum skill of 70 in ALL skills, in glb terms, but here they don't.

ALL NFL HBs probably have 85+ balance, even scrubs, but here it istn't like that, GLB players don't have requirements to enter "GLB league". It should be like this: If you don't want to invest in balance feel free to do it, but your player will suck and won't be able to move properly (WHEN DOING CUTS, BLOCKING, JUMPING, TACKLE INTERACTIONS OF COURSE, he still is human, he can run in a straight line). But again, the problem is, players don't have enough skill points to NOT SUCK in a lot of skills, we have to choose the ones that we like most or are more effective, you just can't build a slow linebacker, you can't, simple as that.

And the other problems is that skills are unbalanced, for exemple, Power running really just becomes a thing with 95+, but sprinting has a actual decent progression through its levels.

Great post. The power running thing is especially unbalanced. It would be a lot more fun if your HB could break tackles at earlier tiers if the defense isn't investing in tackling skills. It doesn't have a great progression and feels useless until higher levels.

The balance change brought to light the whole issue you talk about and the lack of skills the players in the game have. Being able to run without falling down is a basic thing that any human who plays football should be able to accomplish. Ever since the balance change and all the changes since, the game just hasn't felt quite right and not as fun to watch.

How often did you use the run tag though?

A few, but not too often. Bronx ran a bit I think the first game I coached vs them... seems like a few other teams, but not many thats for sure.

I feel like we went from one extreme (well built power backs redicuously running over whole teams) to the other (outside runs being practically useless).
I tag my run defenses inside or outside run. But I have had success stuffing the run with pass defenses as well. This is not because I am a defensive guru (far from it) but more so the state of the game. I personally would like to see something in the middle.

i might be wrong, but the outside run seemed to get easier to defend when some of the pathing logic changed, around the time they addressed the spam-the-TE issue. It got overlooked/forgotten in the furor over balance. LBs and safeties are more likely to pause or run to the right spot now.

the running game still works, it's just not a sure thing any more. So we have to pass on 3rd down, which creates some hard choices on o-line builds.

It will be interesting to see how the new Resolute SA stacks up against Spin Cycle.

heh, hilariously i just tried to do a run on a spin back and its a bit laughable how sparingly you have to spread points around to speed, quick, balance, conditioning, elusive running, footwork, and toughness.
