I guess you are right on this. But at best can only be viewed as = to a sack. Now the issue would be getting enough tfl as blitz LBs get a ton of sacks.
My opinion overall is that in real football run stoppers are not valued as much anymore. A bunch of tackle shows youre doing your job well but its still not highly valued like a pass rusher disrupting a passing game. But in rl passing is king. In glb running is. So you may be on to something with this after all. Just not sure what would be the way to fix it. I guess it would be needing to increase the value of TFL to start. Then also increase the value of Tackles some.
In the end the real fix would be fixing blocking so blitzers don't run free time and again. Or make it so QBs don't hold the ball like they do on 3rd down.
What about a guy like Vader who has been top 5 in Knock loose, PDs, tackles, assists, F Fum....basically everything except sacks? That is my problem. Vader is a much better all around LB than Johnny, but Johnny is winning solely on sacks.
Unfortunately thats the way sports work.... there's always players doing the dirty, unseen work, but the highlight reel players are the ones everyone loves.. hence sacks are key, however every player is important in making the defense function as a whole, there's no point having either one or the other of these two guys on their own in a team
