Tons of plays happen like this one:

http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/383075/402749

You need a set number of yards, here 11, and you get that number but it's not a first down. We don't have a field to dump SPs in (to my admittedly limited knowledge) that helps with these type of plays. You just have to assume that the ball didn't cross the first down line, even though the readout indicates that your player got the yardage needed. I'm assuming some kind of a roll happens behind the scenes to determine these types of rulings, so how about an SA called "Bring out the Chains!" or "Chain Gang" that would give you a positive effect on those rolls?

Behind the scenes there are decimals. On the PBP the yardage is rounded. So you can gain 10.7 on a 3rd and 11 and it says you gained 11 yards.

Best I can suggest is Grinder. It won't prevent the decimal issues (Steve correctly explained what happened above) but could help prevent them in the future.

Still think it's a decent idea for an SA. Realize it gets tricky when you start tampering with static rule sets but it would add a neat alternative to some of the more disappointing SA trees, such as QB.

There have been loads of great SA suggestions in previous threads. This is another one I like. I don't think I would actually spend APs on it though, even if it existed. It happens rarely enough to just accept as a part of the game. It happening in games that really matter is even rarer. Grinder is a much better option to try and ensure the situation crops up less, but I don't buy that either.

All the same, the SA pool is a more than a little dry and as you say, some of it's trees are withered.
