Yup your DEs must be set to power rushing tactic to help seal the edge as much as possible.

Actually the RDE needs to be set to combo so he takes an outside approach. If he is set to power rush, he risks being picked up by the left guard. Evasive would be to wide of an approach and interfere with the blitzing LB's path.

He doesn't get the sack here but you can see the RDE go outside the left tackle and forces the left tackle to pick him up.

Depends what you are trying to do on defense.

Mostly sprinting. A good base quickness. I agree with the ~50 baseline for quickness.

To contribute to the discussion, with your specific scenario in mind (outside runs) I think sprinting is your most important stat regardless of scheme for your LBs and safeties. Doesn't matter if it's man or zone based. Those guys are at a disadvantage being in the middle of the field as opposed to your corners who are already out there. The current meta has running backs 95+ speed, you want to give yourself as many chances of getting him as possible. If the play is a sweep right, you want your free safety to be fast enough to make the tackle. He could have the best tackling caps in the world, but it wont matter unless he can get to the ball carrier. Speed kills.

Sprinting on defenders also allows them to run by would be blockers instead of taking blocks often. In addition to that the increase in speed also seems to help with getting them to run to the sideline as opposed to running underneath blocking interactions and taking a trailing path. They will still do this but more sprinting seems to make them do it less I believe.

And it would also be nice to hit 99 in each skill but you cannot. High sprinting is needed on some LBs but not all, in zone. I would rather put those 1000s of points elsewhere on some LBs, like high brb and tackling skills and quick/foot.

What could possibly be more useful of a skill? Even in zone? You take any cover 2 play with 6 defenders, or double lurks, or whatever. The moment defenders realize that it's a run they switch to pursuit mode, and you want them getting to the ball carrier.

If your argument is that certain skills are more valuable than normal because of zone defenses, that's fine. Given the premise of the question though, what could really be more important than having high sprinting?
