Was having a discussion on this and was curious what other people thought on the subject. When you set up special teams defense do you run your backups to keep the starters fresh or do you run the starters to try to keep he return yards down?

Play your Run defenders on coverage.
Play your Run blockers on returns.

Even if they are starters i will run my run defenders. and the best tacklers at that too. So all of the run cbs play all defense special teams. almost all lbs but the lb that is coverage are special teamers. DES with high brb and high sprinting are on there too.

lets say your playing a team like D'haran or HOF do you waste your best run stopers on special teams or keep them off special teams to keep them fresh so you dont end up with tired run defenders vs backs like barry or mbp?

You use them to prevent the st tds that come from those backs returning

Have no choice, you have to.
Again it goes back to what Galithor railed about back in S6 or what not.
All Run teams had not only a Blocking advantage on ST but also caused the D to tire more because you had to play Run Defenders on ST. A pure Run O had more players/resources that were run orientated than any D, so ST was a huge advantage to all run (and a negative for all pass).

Looks like I have had the best returner on the Drunks the past two seasons and C'MON MAN was the best for the two seasons before that. Speed doesn't get you into the end zone on STs as much as pure power. I mean I had a 50 PRTD season for C'MON MAN.
Edit: Upon further inspection I've seen that this is Quina's first season at #1 ST HOF. Congrats Val!
It seems that besides season 15 where FB Duck Beard took the #1 spot I have owned it since season 10 on. Last season C'MON MAN was #1 Offense and #1 STs in the HOF. The first time that's ever happened. The disparity between Vet C'MON MAN and Jman Barry was ridiculous on offense but the tier difference did just enough...
