Madison (Vet), has 3 TEs, two with extremely low route tech/elusive (in the teens) and one with highish (70ish)... the high doesn't seem to be any better at all than the two with very low, either at catching balls or being targeted more.

I've been testing this over a few seasons with multiple teams, and I've came to the conclusion route tech/elusive does jack-squat for TEs (although I do agree it def helps for WRs)

thoughts?

I think this depends on the routes you want to run at what distance. Also, SS is a hazard position to build for, how much coverage tech do they have? Probably not much.

Then there's other plays like ZEB which tries to put an out of position ILB on the TE which is just a coverage nightmare. TE with zero route skills will win that 90% of the time.

I don't think even WR's need Route Elusiveness (it can be very useful at times, but that's different from necessary), and they only need Route Tech if they don't have good Quickness (though if you aren't going for the First Step SA-- in which case you want Quickness-- it's a cheaper way than Quickness to be able to run routes that require making cuts).

I have some guys with high Route Elusiveness. They also have Head Fake, but even when HF doesn't fire I find it often helps them get open on a cut. The coverage guy definitely loses a step or two at times. I have speed guys who have virtually no Route Elusiveness who rely on Speed to get open, and if you go that route you don't need Route Elusiveness at all, IMO.

Route Elusiveness seems very expensive for TE's, but a TE of mine who has a good amount definitely gets a step on his man at times because of it.

So, my opinion is no one needs it. It's a way to get open, but there are others. Probably everyone should have some Route Tech unless they're never asked to make significant cuts in their routes.
