Looking for some advice.

I have a DT who does well getting off blocks, but he's having trouble tackling HBs. He's missing about 1/3 of his tackles, and that's not good enough.

Here are his current stats:

Tackling Tech: 75
Tackling Grip: 48
Power Tackling: 35
Balance: 57

What's the most cost effective way of making him a better tackler? I feel like his Tackling Tech is pretty decent. I have safeties with that kind of tackling tech and grip who don't miss half as many tackles. I suppose I can up the grip, but would it be better to increase balance or power instead? Maybe better balance will help my DT recover faster after defeating a block? Maybe higher power tackling will help against the momentum advantage of the HB?

I am going to guess power tackling is the issue here. I am not sure how heavily I would invest in it though. Some mistakes are going to happen at DTand to me the true value of DTs is not even shown on the base stats. DT true value outside of getting TFLs on some short situations on inside runs is racking up assisted tackles by having a hand on a RB and making easier tackles for your interior LBs. I think some level of missed tackles is acceptable for the position right now. Your guy (I assume you are talking about your Pro S* DT) has 11 missed tackles, 20 tackles and like 32 assisted tackles or something like that. If you count the assisted tackles in the ratio he has a missed tackle somewhere near 1 out of every 6 tackling interactions. Still feels a little high but definitely not the 33% rate that you were viewing it as.

I guess that's true. I forgot to account for assisted tackles.

However, the results are often pretty bad when he misses one on one tackles. The defeated O-lineman usually puts his hat on another defender pretty quickly. If my DT misses in the backfield the HB has a numbers advantage going into the hole. That leads to big gains and a frustrated agent.

I would try sprinting and/or quickness honestly depending on where those are.

don't overlook pursuit as an important attribute for a DT
