Say I ran two S* DE's with no backups.
Say they had 55+ conditioning and toughness.

Would they be acceptable for a full game, or would they still need a backup DE?

Probably would auto insert a LB or DT, but you should be ok

should be ok with high toughness. Downside would be more salary cost and less players available for special teams.

Would have to be a LB. DT's can't be put at DE.

I'd prob go 60 Conditioning myself.

After awhile at a certain energy threshold the computer will automatically sub in someone who most closely fits the position.

Ok good to know, will just stick with 3 DE's then.

Oh I see. I was just referring to what you can do in the depth charts.

Haven't found that to be true.

Set your replacement to "Infrequent" and DONT have any other player in the top box listed as a backup. If you have a listed backup, even "Infrequent" will sometimes sub.

60 Conditioing and 60 Toughness is enough even for a 110 play Passing Offense game.

I think you could go 2 S* DE, though it is expensive but doable. (It's 5 DE in Salary Cap hit).

Yup, the top box needs to be blank.

Especially if you want someone playing OOP to get most or all of the snaps. Otherwise the OOP player will rarely sub in no matter the "Frequent", "Sometimes", or "Infrequent".

As Xars already said, the main downside is that you are paying for 5 regular DEs, which aren't cheap dots like DTs or Ss. Throw on a bunch of salary boosting traits and it will probably hurt you somewhere else more than it helps. To give you an idea, 2 S* DTs also costs as much as 5 regular DTs, but less than 4 regular DEs. So if you just want 2 S*s on the DL, that is the cheaper way to do it.

Also, less dots for ST, and DL are particularly useful for ST.

Also also, 55 conditioning is not enough imo for that sort of scheme.
