I see what you are thinking. I wasn't proposing getting rid of the SS premium though - they would still be more expensive. But maybe a poorly built SS gets a bit cheaper and can find a place to play. A team of phenomenal SSs maybe has to break up by losing one or two of them. Etc.
And yes, of course you can game it by essentially benching/hiding your better dots, but then what is the point of having better dots if you aren't using them?
The only real exploit I see is starting your backups against terrible teams. But that potentially isn't an exploit at all, and I would argue would result in desired behavior. Give more play time to players without the best dots. Give owners and coordinators more decisions to make in terms of taking a risk playing your B team against a worse team and potentially losing.
I think it would naturally balance out more than you assume.
And on your last point, it just adds a new challenge to being an owner. Not necessarily a bad thing.
