Here's the deal, plain and simple.

A back with basically maxed tackle breaking skills and good momentum is going to be almost impossible to stop in 1 on 1 scenarios. If you've got two+ guys with decent tackling skills together, you're in good shape.

If you want to be good at stopping rushing a) don't get pancaked/pushed around, b) shed some blocks and c) definitely have some grip and ideally also Death Grip SA. Just getting a grip on someone will slow them down and take away a lot of their momentum. It's in those scenarios where a 2nd tackler can come in and super reliably close the deal. If you're 1 on 1 they may break it regardless of 80 tackling tech/etc., but shame on you for even being in a 1 on 1 scenario with 'name your NFL power runningback in the last decade' (Marshawn Lynch, Brandon Jacobs, etc.)

Guys with 60 tackling tech and 40 power tackling can work if and only if you're tactically supporting them. You can't expect those corners to make stops in 1 on 1's. You need them to latch on and hold on for dear life while a 2nd player quickly comes diving in to stop the ball.

In terms of the tech + power OR tech + grip, no...just no. They're all mandatory is some form. Don't want to invest in Power Tackling? I'll Power Through your face. Don't want to invest in grip? I'll start dragging you and quickly break free before anyone can help. Don't want to invest in tackling tech? You won't even get a tackling attempt.

Add gold closing speed, especially on your safeties, making them high speed, and you're good to go

Think after going death grip on a bunch of guys that I'd rather go elsewhere. Just didn't show much to me in terms of that much ap investment.

I thought balance helped with power backs and pursuit helped with elusive backs?

Balance and pursuit help in pursuit of backs through blocks. Less so in the actual tackle attempt itself.

How high were your players grip? I think it fires alot.

Pursuit helps get to the back. Balance helps hanging on to the back along with grip.

Isn't pursuit supposed to avoid chances of fakes by ball carriers? Not just juke or spin, but plain elusive running. I've seen tacklers who aren't blitzing just run right by an elusive back. Not so with a power back. They always make the attempt vs power backs, but sometimes vs elusive no attempt even happens.

70 on my guys with dg. It's less a matter of firing and more of it being sort of meaningless in comparison to another choice.

probably more on the attempt than actually making the tackle. Not sure where balance fits in for tackling. That part sounds made up as their isn't even reference to it in the pop over.

Im guessing balance helps more with the losing grip roll while being dragged. No description, more of a hunch really.

Not really seeing it. If that were the case my guys would be holding tackles like crazy as I've always been big on balance until Steve recently made a comment about wasting points in it. Plus my grip is always maxed.

My thought behind balance being used for tackling is the part about being thrown to the ground. Balance keeps the player up right, so he needs balance to help with grip to hold on to the runner without being thrown to the ground. Something like that.
