I noticed all the players in my 1st game started with 1/2 Morale - what's up with that?

How morale works now. You build morale with good plays and sa, which will decay. You lose morale from bad plays and sa which will regen back to 50.
50 is baseline.

Oh, wow. Do the Home Town Hero & Road Warrior SA's work all the time, or only when it's below 50?
